If you do start looking, don’t be surprised if they have a few more owners than you’d expect. Some are bought hand sold before a service or chunk of maintenance is due. I think I’m the 6th owner of my car when I bought it and it was 9 years old

Ok as you know I take the advice from the experts on this forum pretty seriously, resulting in me halting my pursuit of the M5 Competition. Since then I have resolutely stuck to looking at BMW AUCs. This one has come up and had a lot of dialogue with the dealer. He’s hoping I will put down a deposit tomorrow:
Before I do I want honest opinions from this group. It’s a nice colour combo and I prefer silver alloys versus black. It has a respectable spec and the all important lumbar seats. Brakes seem ok with 17k-20k miles left on the Idrive showing (these are big ticket items on the M5).

Anything that you see that is of concern? I am hoping to see the car later this week or between Christmas and New Year (it is quite far away from me unfortunately). https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202212022204534?quoteref=eb8fac03-8900-4f6c-8451-5fdbb4818591

    Honest opinions greatly appreciated!

Put the registration number in to a service like car vertical, I used them on 3 cars before I bought mine, two off them with a bmw dealer, one had been repaired extensively, eventually bought one from the dealer.

From initial look the car looks superb. Good mileage and the right interior. Is what I would want. And, the tanzanite blue paint is an utter joy to look at. It suits the M5 so damn well. Price is okay.

personally I love it and it is seriously making me miss my old M5 hugely.

Just get on and do it. Just make sure it has had its big service which is the plugs etc because that is a stinger and that the tyres all match with good tread.

Brakes as you say are eye watering but should have huge mileage left. I drove mine in MDM almost all the time so that it didn’t wear out the rear brakes lol.

If you drive it I wi reiterate the settings to put it in otherwise you will not get the best sensation and experience.

    Suspension in sport
    Engine in sport +
    Steering in comfort
    Gearbox in S3

The accelerator will be a lot more sensitive than you are used to but once warm, get to 2000rpm in 3rd and plant it and see the hell break loose. It is intoxicating. You could try it in 2nd but it will want to light up the tyres lol.

Hmm that has made me want to go out in my G80 and have a play now

    Looks stunning in that colour.

I can’t add anything specific on ///M so definitely take @mystic sport as gospel. The only thing I would say given you’re coming from an F10 is to ensure that it has everything you have on your existing car as minimum as anything which is missing will grate hugely over time and spoil the ownership experience.

Otherwise usual stuff like history checks, matching tyres and service requirements.

    Enjoy!

FWIW - I do believe you’re doing the right thing sticking to AUC only.

I (unfortunately) have zero M experience other than dreaming, however, the combo on that one looks really smart.
Greta advice from mystic and Spuff, also worth doing an external car check as the main dealers have been known to “accidentally” list cars with insurance issues.

Hope that deposit is down and you are counting the days down to delivery!

Forgot the most important thing. Make sure it has had its running in service done at around 1200 miles. Very important!!!

Sorry guys, work has been relentless. I tried my best to see if I could visit the dealer today but couldn’t make things work. The dealer is a long way away from me, meaning a 6 hour plus round trip. I wish the dealer was closer. I am reluctant to place a deposit down without seeing the car first. Still trying to see what else I can do. I appreciate all the comments and will follow up with all of you separately. But a big thank you for the expertise!

Put a deposit down. It’s refundable so if you get there and it’s not as described then you get your money back.

Nothing worse than trying to get there and the car selling to someone else.

Well done, a full fat M is a different beast. Trust me you will not be disappointed and you will feel all the subtle differences immediately.

Just make sure you keep the nanny fully engaged at first lol, unless unlike me you want to almost swap ends like my M3 tried to this morning. Actually pinched the seat as wasn’t as prepared for such a loss of traction off a wet roundabout and my wife was not happy - only going to get a Cineworld voucher for her parents and went all Tommi Makkinnen without really trying :LOL:

Yes, part of the reason I decided not to proceed with the other car. Running in service was done at 1367 miles so I think this is ok!

I know M ownership is hardly an exercise in conservatism and frugality, and frankly I did go through the motions of getting something newer with more up to date tech, but for what I wanted i.e. a car with power and practicality combined an M340i X Drive was a bit too far out of reach for me. And of course that last opportunity to own a full fat M before I need to reach for my pipe and slippers (or before the green brigade force me down electric ownership)

    Excellent! You won’t regret it.

When are you going to see it?

Is the servicing schedule more extensive on an M car….?
I am aware of the run on service at 1k miles… what happens after that…?

Not really sure to be honest. Not necessarily more extensive, but more expensive for sure
