Great to hear and a great way to start the new year too. I see mention of fuel consumption there. Please relax on that now. In order to enjoy a performance car, you need to be largely agnostic to that issue as your real figure will be substantially below what you quoted above. If you focus on what mpg you’re getting (or not getting) it will ruin any fun you’re having with it. You’ll obviously have modelled what you think you’ll get as a daily. You’ll either be on the money or slightly below. Just remember that the incremental difference in 1-2mpg is largely peanuts unless your mileage is huge. What I’m saying is if you modelled 20mpg longterm and you’re getting 18mpg, it’s probably only £20-30 extra per month which hopefully shouldn’t move the needle. So don’t be getting hung up on it. Enjoy the car and happy new year to everyone here!
He’s going sideways around the nearest island, rear tyres smoking….. Hopefully enjoying the new beast.
OK guys, sorry for the delay, I started a new ownership thread here and started off with a long ramble about my collection and drive home yesterday. Read at your peril, I hope I don't bore you to death https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?threads/nics-f10-m5-ownership-thread.4838/
Not brave enough to try that YET. And I need those tyres to give me a bit of life, so no tyre smoking right now!
I actually hardly drove it today, I turned my attention to cleaning my wife's car which was well overdue, and as a small thank you for putting up with all my sh1t
I think you’re spot on here and I am taking that advice and not concerned. Perhaps an adjustment mentally from the endurance of the 535d, but the extra cost in fuel is a trade off for the drama I so desired ! My commute to work is 10 miles either way, so not a huge distance at all. I wrote up a new ownership thread so take a read, I tried to avoid further mention of MPG although there is a small reference to my old car. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. Yes lots to still get used to it, and I think I love it already. It’s full of personality which the 535d lacked, albeit a very capable car. I hope to be able to sustain the costs of ownership, I will keep you all updated!
Thanks and good to know others haven’t had to go with getting a tracker. I did easily find insurance that didn’t have this requirement. I don’t have comfort access and I am glad I don’t due to its inherent security weaknesses. But realise if the car is wanted and they are determined it will be stolen regardless. Anyway it’s generally parked either in a secure car park at work or in my drive at home and don’t live in a high risk area so hopefully will be ok. Yes the range due to the tank size is a boon for long distance travel, will need it for our next European trip. Interesting how much smaller your tank is!
That’s a great pic that, the best blue in my opinion. Matches the brake callipers too. But I do love the ‘unusualness’ of my dark Tanzanite blue. Great to hear you’ve lusted after one too! Perhaps my tales in the coming months will tempt you a little more (or not if it turns sour). I have a colleague at work who has an M6 convertible with ceramic brakes (gold callipers). Based on the cost of replacement I am so glad I don’t have ceramic on my car (yes mine will still cause me a minor arterial blockage come replacement time, but ceramics are a different level).
Thanks Spuff and yes I do remember reading about your experience with the Macan. That was a great car, pity your experience with the Cayenne didn’t live up to that. Strangely enough I am not YET missing the 535d, maybe due to the novelty of having the beast in my drive. The spec on the 535d was minimal, when I purchased it I was moving from an old E46 330ci and was happy to be in what was the latest 5 series at the time. I am now more familiar with the F10/F11 cabin and what I had and didn’t have. I had the small screen Business Nav, basic hi fi, with the only good option being the panoramic sunroof and heated seats. I had no Connected Drive services as standard such as RTTI (which I subscribed to later). So in that sense I have taken a huge step up in comfort and spec. Today my buyers remorse is subsiding
I did!! By the time I got home my smile was much bigger versus the start of my journey. My feelings of remorse have subsided (although I cannot over state how close I was to pulling out of the deal last minute). It was a torturous battle of heart versus mind, eventually even my heart had relented when my anxiety of what I had done spiralled during my drive to fetch it. I am in a much better place now!
Thank you and I did a long ramble on my new ownership thread. Take a look. Thanks for confirming regarding the tracker. I don’t think I need one but wanted advice from other M owners.
