Not having much luck recently. After getting my bonnet and front bumper repainted by BMW the car looked as good as new. One week later a large stone was flicked up from a car in front of me and my windscreen is badly cracked . Phoned my insurance who have arranged Autoglass to come to my work Monday to fit a new screen. Having double checked the screen with AG they say they select it from my registration number and supposedly it has anti fog / rain sensor and new seals - it is OEM spec from the same manufacturer but without the BMW logo.. Looking on the net there seem to be conflicting stories of cars needing to have the rain sensors reset at BMW after screen replacement? Has anyone experience of having their screen replaced on a E60 / 61 and did you need any recalibration? Thankfully the screen was the only thing the rock hit, just hope Autoglass do a good job!
I've had my E61 screen replaced by Autoglass. I did stress to them I was very fussy so they made sure I got an experienced fitter. They did a good job. In theory the rain sensor should be recalibrated for the new glass. In practice it may be fine without recalibration. If it does need doing it's a couple of minutes with a diagnostic tool. Perhaps use it as an excuse to buy a C110 scanner.
Thanks for the replies guys. Phoned Autoglass again and checked, Apparently they have four levels of fitter. One being least experienced and Four being the highest level working on premium cars with 'many years experience' Apparently I have said level four fitter coming out to my car. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
