Apologies for the delay, work has a habit of getting in the way of the more important things in life....! I went for the Brooklyn Grey car, this has been a BMW UK owner car, a member of their central office team had the car. May 2023 registered, so in a 23 plate. The spec includes: - Comfort pack, comfort access, heated steering wheel etc - Blue brake calipers - Bicolour wheels, 20" rear, 19" front, some cars came with Pirellis, this has new Michelin PS4s all round - Assisted driving, this includes active cruise control with the semi-autonomous driving (interesting this is a stand alone option and not part of the Tech+ pack) - Black leather with blue stitching - Usual G87 spec includes H+K stereo, HUD, heated/electric/memory sports seats, folding mirrors, adaptive chassis, carbon interior trim, carbon gear shift paddles etc 100% a heart over head decision, Mrs W still isn't convinced, but as I've said, she won't notice a difference in the travel experience when she is in the car, everything will be in Efficient/Comfort. However, when I'm on my own..... As to the comment around xDrive in the G87, I think this will open up a wider audience to the M2 experience, which is a good thing, however, I wanted to experience the rear drive version, I will be looking to book a driving experience/lessons in the future. I want to enjoy the balance of the chassis, the true experience of rear wheels pushing the car and front wheels steering the car. I can imagine the xDrive versions of the M cars are sensational, and possibly the next car as an option. I've had lots of paperwork, all very slick and efficient, just awaiting the finance process to clear, then I will pay the remaining deposit. Booked in for a 9am collection on Saturday, I shall drive the M440i down there for the collection and swap. A final thread on the G22 at some point soon. I'm still going through the "no, this is daft, cancel the order..." through to "wow, how exciting, I can't wait..." rollercoaster of emotions. A few jobs to do, change the insurance (I'm going to get a rebate..!!!), buy a new Gap insurance policy, order the rad protection grills as there are three massive gaping holes on the G87 bumper that are just begging for stones to embed themselves into the rad packs. There are a few decent non-OEM options for these. I think that is all. Four days of work between now and then, off to see Peter Kay on Friday night, hope he is good, otherwise my mind maybe elsewhere!
Sounds like you have a lot of fun times ahead. Really happy for you, some of the best decisions in life are heart over head decisions.
It is a great decision you have made A work colleague has just taken delivery of a new purple M240i xdrive and it is a lovely thing, the M2 will be another level again. Brooklyn Grey looks great although I have to say I also have a soft spot for the Zandvoort Blue colour they do - not that I am looking you understand Enjoy the pick up
About bloody time Welcome to the ///M club. I am assuming that the 2023 M menu in the M2 won’t be too different to the 2021 M3 so can I suggest these settings for the M1 and M2 buttons. I find these pretty much spot on for 95% of my driving. I spend most time in M1 but M2 gives it a bit more edge. Anyway, congratulations, you have now buggered yourself up for future car purchases
Congratulations again! Really pleased for you and can’t wait to live vicariously through you and this purchase over the coming months and years. It’s phenomenal that you’re able to turn around the trade so quickly. The next few days are surely going to drag but far better than a week or so of sleepless, excited nights!
Just shows how much of a heart decision this is, I’ve changed my mind so many times, and that’s just today. All ready to cancel the order this morning, but then the finance docs came through to sign and I paused for breath. Forms were signed (web based) an hour ago, so I am now committed. Gulp. This car makes absolutely zero sense in any respect, other than the “want” category. A full fat M (albeit the baby version) has been on my bucket list since I bought the E92 325i back in 2012. Buying the M440i was far more of a head decision, odd to say given the apparent impracticality with of a three litre petrol coupe, almost an attempt to stave off the want for an M. Backfired on me! 9am Saturday seems a long way away right now.
Thanks to @mystic sport for the set up guide. I’m really looking forward to working through the options and M1/2 buttons. Neither will be touched when Mrs W is in the car! Not unless there is an option to switch to four cylinders and halve the power… We won’t see the likes of these cars shortly, so something to be celebrated and enjoyed I feel.
The joys of being the other side of kids, now in the grandparent territory. Supported my boys through uni, able to give my step-daughters money for the granddaughters, leased Mrs W an electramathinglybob, time to treat myself. And I still feel guilty about it!
Guess I am lucky as my wife almost encourages me to smash the accelerator, particularly if another car feels it wants to be an arse around us. Yes I am a child and my wife isn’t far behind lol. First button I press is M1 then I start the thing.
I think in your heart of hearts you always wanted the ///M and maybe was kidding yourself that the 440i would suffice. You probably made the decision within 100 meters of driving the M2 but just needed to reconcile it in your head. I have to go through this next month. Do I keep the G80 or go for another G80 in Toronto red with Fiona red interior , I am erring on keeping my current one. Little things like looking at the steering wheel and seeing the M coloured stitching or the M2 at the top of the cluster display will make you smile. Oh and an S58 under the bonnet.
Indeed it is. Working until 3pm today, then need to unload the G22 of any personal stuff, including the dash cam. Off to see Peter Kay tonight, will hopefully take my mind of tomorrow morning for a few hours! Leaving at 7:45am to get there for a 9am handover. Will fill up with super unleaded and head home!
Back from Peter Kay, super show. I ache from laughing. Drive the electroglide into B’ham, perfect for the terrible traffic around the centre. Totally different vehicle from my new one! Alarm set for the morning, a trip down the M5 ready for 9am. Exciting times.
