I think it's for June 2024 cars onwards with power up to 473bhp. Read something on the net earlier today and just realised it was not that current
Yup, LCI cars have the 8.5 idrive, a flat bottomed wheel, some geometry tweaks and an extra 20bhp, same torque figure of 550Nm though. Pretty much no exterior changes other than the front and rear badge. Mine has the LCI rear badge as I disliked the standard one. Standard cars have a steel roof, there is an option for a sunroof as well, the CF roof is a £2300 option.
Same as the G8* cars then, flat bottom wheel is actually good. I thought I would hate it but because the column isn’t electric like in the M5 the wheel can get scuffed getting in and now the flat bottom stops that.
Our local school is having a re-build this spring/summer, currently in the ground prep stage so creating clouds of sandy grit/dust, this has been settling on any surface, including the cars. I contacted the site manager to ask about their dust calming measures, to be fair he was straight on the reply. It seems that they had been promised a separate water supply form South Staff Water, but this didn't happen, hence them not being able to dampen the working areas each day. On Friday they had a bowser delivered, and this has had a positive impact on the dust spread. I'd not bothered cleaning the M2 as it was a pointless exercise for the past month or so, however, the opportunity was ripe yesterday. It needed a really good rinse, thankfully the paint protection worked well, most of the dust/grit simply rinsed off. A good wash and dry, some areas needed a rub over with a mild clay bar (using AG Rapid Detailer as a lube) to get rid of the slight sandy feel on the paintwork. Re-washed, dried with some AG Ceramic spray and a buff all over. The wheels were the hardest part, the dust have gathered in all the nooks and crannies, took a decent amount of time for each wheel to come up clean again. AG Fast Glass as a final finish and the car looks grand again. We shall see how long it lasts! Off to Sytners for the oil/filter/microfilter service in the morning.
Nice job. It is the wheels I want to keep on top of this time round. I found that the old car even though in great condition the wheels has minor deposits still so was frustrating. They were essentially the same design as you have and quite fiddly to clean. I actually prefer my new ones to clean and will keep on top of it now.
I've actually looked into buying a wheel stand for cleaning them, but taking them off and cleaning/treating etc may just be a step too far........
All I want to be able to do is find a tool that cleans the entire rim to the back without removing the wheel because of the brakes. I can get to the backs with a long soft cleaning brush from Halfords and it clears the brakes on rears fine so can get the whole rim inside clean but not a chance on the front so there is always a bit left behind the brakes and I can’t be bothered moving it half a wheel rotation.
I’m of a mind that taking them off a couple of times a year and giving them a thorough clean is a “good idea”. It’s also an opportunity to give the hubs a once over, and wire brush the wheel bolts. As to a stand I use a convenient bush.
On to my second “free” coffee while they put some unobtainium oil into the M2. “Nice to see a customer actually looking after their car sir” was the greeting from the service rep. “Clearly you don’t want it washed sir”. Damn right.
Glad you are still getting on well with the car, love to see you are still keeping it immaculate too. Quite a few on here are keen on doing so, I love to see a pride of ownership. Funny you had a similar comment from the dealership to me last time I picked up the car from Halliwell Jones. The adviser who brought my lowly steed round to the collection point said she couldn't believe how clean it was, and said it certainly looked better prepared than their AUC stock was ! They had actually placed two "do not clean" signs in it, one facing outwards in the windscreen, the other covering the instrument binnacle. Don't fall for the free coffee trap Mathew, you'll be looking over the showroom soon
My G30 is 8 years old now and ive had similar comments from MOT stations "its like new" and from the trusted BMW specialist i now use "makes a change to work on a a spotless car" Best compliment was from a Ferrari driver - i parked in a corner bay as far possible from anybody else, he parked up in the next bay "mind if i park here as you clearly look after your car and are not likely to ding my doors"
In all honesty, I did have a walk around the showroom, new cars and used. The M3 touring in green looked lovely, the M2 in purple with black wheels looked horrible, the M5 touring looked huge. There was only one car (used) that I was actually keen on and that was a 2022 M340i touring in Skyscraper grey with a tacoma red interior, very smart.
Well, funny what time and thinking does to a car owner. I always knew that the M2 was going to be in my ownership for a relatively short period of time, originally thinking 12-18 months. However, it now looks like I will have the car until sometime in August. The reason? I've placed an order for a new car, paid the deposit to secure th build slot yesterday, more on this in another thread. The M2 is absolutely brilliant. I am so, so glad I have had the privilege of owning such a car, it truly does live up to the hype and reputation. No doubt I will do a full run down and final review in the summer, I have plenty of miles to put on it yet, including two trips to North Wales in July. However, with car ownership there is always a compromise to be had, and the M2 isn't a car to compromise with, it is what it is, an all out performance car. I was planning on reducing my fleet to one car, and the EV for Mrs W, in the autumn, this plan has been brought forward due to the deal that I have just struck. There is a hint to the new car in my previous post on here.... So, three months or so to enjoy the M2.
Wow! I have to say, I'm very surprised as I thought your view of the M440i was that it was neither one thing nor another and thus a bit boring? What's brought about the change of heart?
I get it, fully understand where you’re coming from. And I too love my M5; culmination of a life-long dream. It is a great all rounder from a capability standpoint. But I’m not in a position where I can afford the daily running costs of an M5 for work purposes. I think older M cars in their hey days were more suited to all round use. But for me it came down to a choice. Sell the car, get something that suits my current needs, or get an old but reliable banger for daily duties. I chose the latter as it enabled me to keep the M5. In so doing I can fully maintain it as it should rather than be using it as a daily and then economising on maintenance. It’s a personal choice, but I absolutely get it.
Totally see where you are coming from, especially with the M5. I did consider buying a more modern work/daily car, upgrading the Alfa to a car that I could use for all journeys, regardless of location, possibly I should have considered this in 2024 when I bought the Alfa and then changed the M440i to the M2. However, I definitely got caught in the M-ness of the change back in November, influencing the decision to keep the Alfa and buy the M2. I don't regret this at all, absolutely no point looking backwards and unpicking decisions unless there is some learning from them. As I said earlier, if I had the space and the finance to keep the M2, I absolutely would.
