Let me guess then, your 50 plus, clean licence, bunch of NCB, no accident history and 15k a year tops?
I look after it myself. Retired so have the time to choose the right day. I'm not going over the top, but like to keep it reasonably decent. Clay it with some rapid detailer, see how much swirling. Polish where necessary and then a coat of Meguiar's carnauba wax. Peter
So the clay removes the surface then you polish it good again? BMW quoted me £600 a year. I don't need it just yet so it may change now I'm on their record
I clay it mainly to get rid of any tar, and extra grime. It hasn't had any special coating, simply waxed it from getting the car. Sophisto Grey is not bad for looks, bright sunshine may show a little more of any blemishes. Peter
My F11 is being a real workhorse at present as we are building a new house in our garden. So it was seats down and another tip run today. I usually keep is very clean and clay and polish it every year but it will have to wait until later in the year. It did have it's annual oil change (I don't like the long service intervals on a turbo diesel) last week. Some pics of the new build Better add a car pick too. Ive hoovered out the air filter box that was full of leaves and that small support bracket had fallen down so I put that back where it belongs. I did look to clear out the dreaded yellow grommet area of leaf debris but when I removed the top cover I found a big black box with a filter on the front. Do I have to remove this to get down to the drain hole?
The grommet is down in the engine bay (passenger side of bulkhead), you remove the plastic cover to get access. The overflow drain from the grommet area to the cavity you are thinking needs the air box removing, is seen at the red arrow. You can also remove the wheel arch liner (passenger side), and get at the main drain for the passenger side enclosed bulkhead. It's within the rubber seal through which the brake pipes also pass, its on the inner side. Peter

My F10 needs a good clean. Should have done it today but just didn't get round to it. However, I paid my insurance, £157 which I guess is a good price for a 3-litre petrol. Can't sat the same for the road tax though... Tomorrow I'll probably continue to think about changing it.....but kick the decision down the road.
Similar here, mine needs a good clean after having birch pollen all over it and leaving a green residue in all the seams and crevices. I'm leaving it until I know the pollen is finished. No point giving a bit of a detail until it is through the worst. Then the insurance... no scheduled serving this July, but the expensive warranty is coming up, if I keep the car. Tempted to move on, but like you, likely to kick the decision down the road. Tempted to go BEV and be done with ICE. Mini is high on the list. My wife started out with a Mini over 50-years ago, perhaps it's time to complete the circle. Peter
