@Patrico777 - as you're a 'newbie' you've likely not have time to fully explore the site yet.

Your questions are very welcome - but don't forget that we have our own Data and Info pages where you may well find the answers you seek quicker than waiting for a member response:

    https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?forums/data-and-info.77/

You can find loads of essential and useful info there including this:

    https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?threads/oil-finder.30/

Generally speaking, if you want discount/best prices on genuine BMW parts check here with oneof our site sponsers:

    https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?forums/cotswold-bmw.53/

Alternatively, if you want OEM quality service parts (e.g. Mahle) then you might be well advised to look here:

    http://www.europarts-motorfactors.com/Default.aspx

Just type in your vehicle registration and see what they can supply - note that europarts are in no way connected with the similar sounding eurocarparts.

The hand book for my E60 520D with the N47 engine which will be the same engine that is fitted to to the 118D listed about four different grades that were all suitable for use but didn't give one particular grade to use

has the car got a full BMW dealer history or has it been serviced outside of the dealer network, if it has a full dealer history and you want to keep it up then shop around the dealers and see what they will offer you price wise

a quick look at one of the dealers that i use an oil service is £128.00 and an oil service and micro filters is £209

if the car has been serviced outside the dealer network then ask around and see if you have a good indy in your area that you could get the car serviced and save a few pounds

It was serviced at BMW but then the garage where I bought it serviced it, all discs pads oil change oil filter, but I rather service it again with the 100% oil that should be there or should I wait 8k miles then take it to bmw ? The company I bought the car from is big motoring world, taking my car to bmw tomorrow morning for shock or susspension check as front right side is knocking when going over bumps, they said they will check everything what it need like servicing etc I think I will tell them fo change diesel filter as I dont see that in history car is on 77k miles small service they quoted me £220 oil change oil filter microfilter then large is same as small just air filter+ fuel filter is it worth getting performance air filter like KN ?

it would be interesting to know what oil the selling dealer used when they serviced it, if it was me i would want to make sure it has the correct oil and he best way to do that is change it yourself or get a dealer to do it for you, also did the selling dealer do the micro filters

as for mods to a car i would not be able to answer that question, i always keep my cars stock and have never done any form of modification or remapping to any of my cars

I think you'll find that BMW 'do it differently' as they say.

Some years ago they stopped the concept of 'major' or 'minor' services / 'Inspection 1' or 'Inspection 2' as it used to be long long ago.

BMW services are now CBS (Condition Based Servicing) and the car call for whatever servicing that is required as far as servicing intervals are concerned, so there are no set mileage/kilometre intervals.

    It generally goes like this:

Ist Service - oil and oil-filter + cabin/pollen filter (some cars have more than one)

    2nd Service - same as 1st service + air-filter and fuel-filter ( or air-filter and spark plugs if a spark ignition engine)

The 3rd Service is back to the same as 1st Service and so on in sequence.

Things like brake-pads/discs etc are not part of any service as such but are done when the car requires.

The i-drive 'vehicle status' service requirements will tell you when.
