    Anyone any experience of these.

There are some seriously cheap delivery mileage pre-registered 2015 M Sports on the AUC starting at under £30k.

Understand the boot is smaller due to the batteries

I haven't driven one but was very keen on one when I left my 550i behind. Unfortunately, the much smaller boot was the sticking point for us, with a small child at the time and all the rubbish that comes with them. But they do look good value for the performance on offer.

Having just had a Lexus 450h for five days I am very disappointed. I only got 250 miles to a tank full of petrol (£57) and it was very slow and just plain weird to drive. I hope a BMW have done a better job of it than Lexus.

Things to watch for on a Hybrid.

    - its unlikely you will get the range from the electric motor that you expect, it works on the same principle as the combustion engine, the harder you drive it, or the more stop starts the faster you use the charge.

    - does it allow for home charging from a 3 pin plug - or maybe at work on a 16amp or 32amp supply ? 13amp charge for mine is 3.5 hours from dead, 2 hours on our 32amp supply at work (albeit it doesn't draw 32amp)

    - The longer you have it the better you will be at getting more MPG per tank, combining the electric, and you work out when to use electric or engine (if you have some electric left).

    - At higher speeds there's no electric, in Pan case it accelerates to 84 in electric.

    - Hard acceleration with both combustion and electric (in boost) uses both fuels.

My average per tank is 40mpg. A full charge of electric costs me about £1.00 of which I average 15mpg, so for £5.00 for a gallon I travel 75miles. Urban.
I average 600 miles per tank including maybe £10/£15 in electric. That's full to full on the last 4 occasions. My 640d did just under 400. And I don't really drive much differently when the road is clear and not busy rush hour. Don't confuse your actual range you get by looking at what the dash says is your petrol range -that is just the petrol range. so when I fill up it usualy says 370 miles range but that's just petrol, I cover 600 miles before I fill up again.

If its bought new you get £5000 government OLEV grant deducted, as long as it meets certain criteria, main one being under 75gms. Make sure if you get a pre registered car you get this benefit.

    - I have never charged at a public charge point as with Hybrids you can charge on the run, but I understand that many of them have put prices up electric in some cases more expensive to run than the combustion equivalent fuel.

    - Its unusual at first for sure, but after a short time your used to it. I have done 4k miles now and love it.

If theres a demo car anywhere, try get it for a few days.

    Hope that helps.

Something doesn't sound quite right, although saying that, not everyone appears to get along with hybrid motors from what I read, and mpg is typically very disappointing.

I was very interested in the Active Hybrid 5 before getting the F11, researched as much as I could before even thinking of a test drive. I came to the conclusion my driving profile would not see good mpg results. If anything, I'd be carrying the extra weight around and possibly not even equal the mpg I get in the F11, with a compromised vehicle.

After reading user reviews and one of the BMW motor mags' running the Hybrid 5, to see how you get the mpg gains, it is clear driving profile and user driving style have a great impact on whether it makes for an economical car.

It does appear that not all drivers are attuned to using the generation in a way which charges the battery to the maximum. There is a feature within the braking strategy called "response travel", where no hydraulic braking takes place. Unless a driver adapts his/her driving style to use that feature to the maximum, (no wasted braking) there is very little resource to tap into, to boost electric power.

So unless we have lots of gentle overruns and/or stop-start driving where we can slow moderately (using full regeneration) it will be harder to gain mpg. My conclusion, the harder we drive, the less a hybrid works to our advantage, and there is a crossover point where the hybrid becomes less economical than the standard model.

Just this past week 'energy recovery' was brought into focus with my F11, when the battery was draining due to the locking fault. Using the overruns to kick the alternator into maximum charge rate, does require extra conscious thought. Now I'd say I was aware of this anyway and use it in normal driving, but when you need to be 'collecting' the maximum charge, it does require tuning the driving style. I see a hybrid requires that constant thought pattern.

Personally I'm now only interested in the BMW plug-in hybrids, makes sense even for my driving profile. I can foresee about 25 - 30% of my typical trips benefiting from a plug-in system, running solely on electrical power over that sort of percentage.

They did have two, but others been sold for £1.3m

As much as it is gorgeous, I would think more like £0.2m

I have just done a quick mental calculation (Lee Evans style), if we put £10k deposit in the monthly payment on a 4 year deal will be :........ "der, d, d ,d ,d , d, der" er, £ mental.

On the up side, they reckon it will increase in value ?
