Mhhhh, not sure about this. We're already the most-monitored society in the developed world, and you can't really legislate for stupid......
At 6k a camera , and should the technology become available to differentiate between driver and passenger , and it probably will , I can see this becoming another cash cow .to milk the motorist , not that I approve of anyone using a phone whilst driving in any way shape or form .
Airplay ? I use that all the time now, so not using Bluetooth for calls. Or even the embedded sim card facility in my car ? What if someone else is using a phone in the car ? I am all for not using mobiles, but don't think they will/could rely on that for law, just perhaps to make a driver using a handheld phone put it down. So not a bad thing.
Each force just needs a plain clothes cycle officer to cycle around the town each and every rush hour. I see literally 10 a day on their phone in stop/start , slow moving traffic. really makes my p*ss boil
And you would not believe the number I see every day facebooking and texting away in the 50mph limited section of the M6. The count averages about 1 per mile....no wonder there's a major incident along there pretty much every day.
It may detect mobile calls, but will it detect the idiots looking at social media on their phones - I suspect not. Social media is worse than hand held calls - they aren't even watching the road ahed.
