X3 M40i vs RRS Sport - exterior shots

Totally agree with everything you say....I'm a big time BMW fan but the RRS just looks right from any angle.....not into any of the BMW 4x4s I'm afraid.

 

I like the new X3, and I'm almost certain I'd get one to replace the wife's E92, if she'd agree. Trouble is she's sat in one and says it's too big, so i'd have no chance getting her into a RRS.

Regarding grills, I was parked near a X7 a few days ago and the grills were massive. It was a local dealers 'Experience' car so I took a look inside, looked good.

So I'd say once you've seen the front end of an X7, the X3 doesn't look too bad at all...

Hope your RRS has its problems sorted now...

 

The front of current BMWs look to me as if they've been slapped about a bit and as a result have 'puffy' eyes.
@The CO Your RR looks gorgeous, shame it's been such a source of frustration for you.

 

I test drove the equivalent X4 on Saturday, all the bells and whistles and a price tag of £61K, I walked away very disappointed and didn't even ask about the numbers. I told the salesman I'd driven a Porsche Macan the previous Saturday, he then knew he was fighting a losing battle. Is it just me or the quality of the interiors on BMW has taken a backwards step? Scratchy hard plastic and flimsy moving parts - maybe I just spoiled with the 5GT and all its luxury. I mean, £61k and no lumbar support, no speed limit display, not even fully electric seats - all of which I have on the GT as well as soft map pockets on the doors, not hard scratchy plastic as in the X4.
Much prefer the RRS or the Macan come to that! I think my days with BMW are fast disappearing.

yeah, the X4 I drove was an ex demo for sale at £45K (£61K was list), even then its too expensive. I'm looking at some very good Macans for that price (sorry guys)

 

You do what you have to do....
When we bought our 640d we bought an car with rrp of £69995 for £48 k
As time went on and others jumped on the 640d band wagon the prices went down even further to £45 k for gran coupes..
They were way too much at £70k that’s touching starting 911 money and they’re not that good....( 911 good) it’s like the 8 series... when they don’t sell they’ll soon be coming south..!!
Porsche has some great models for reasonable money if you get the spec right..get it wrong and you could be paying £20k for options...
I also like ( not in the case of the 640d) to throw in a case for residuals... and that’s where Porsche is going great guns at the mo... the residuals on BMW’s are woefull.. so if your buying with your heart that’s fine, but if buying with your head needs to be factored in...I’d love an M5... just to say I’ve owned one..but not at rrp’s ...
My Vw transporter van stands me in total at 21k ... 5 years on and 100k its still worth £ 16/17k... as a diy converted camper..something the bmw lost in 12 months... but my wife loves the bmw... sooo much...so all notions of residual factors just go right out of the window...
We now have a caravan.... (sorry guys) which is going to be seasonally based in wales... it’s the biggest heaviest caravan you can buy... so even though towing is not reqd just yet one of us is going to need a big heavy car in the next year... or so, while one of us is just going to need a cheap runner for work trips..
My wife likes the q8... can’t imagine what I may end up with..??

Why do the tail lights look so massive? Now that you've mentioned that, I can't un-see it

X3 looks a bit nondescript to me , but obviously a bit of a Sleeper performance wise though . Still don t like the Grilles

 

It's not just BMW that don't fit electric seats to their upmarket range. A few years back my wife and I were browsing the local MB dealership. The helpful salesman suggested that we may be interested in a ex-demo. S type they had up for sale.

It looked quality, so we agreed to give it the once over. Other half gets in the driver's seat, and being just over 5 foot, immediately seeks the switch to move the seat forward. Err, no, you have to pull that lever up and shuffle your way forward, says the salesman. Out she jumps. Nearly £90K list - you must be kidding. And we left.

Mind, it was an extra to have full-electric seats on the E92, but that didn't list at £90k

 

I take BMW list prices with a pinch of salt these days....well actually a large dose - I specced up a new 530d Touring the other day (only for fun) and it came out at almost £60k.

The current 7 series are excellent value second hand and all come with comfort massaging seats and adaptive suspension but I don't want a big car and need a hatch of some sort.

As stated above Porsche are incredibly low specced cars in std trim - the last gen 911's (991) you had to pay for heated seats!

Back to the OP's pics - I prefer the look of the RRS although I don't think I would ever own either.

I just don't need an SUV, and will probably never own one, but I think that the RRS looks the business. The BMW looks more like a blown up car on steroids.
But as far as reliability goes . . . .

 

Lets not talk about EGR coolers and suspension airbags.....
