I made a huge mistake by buying the Carista!
After playing around with the coding of my E87, 1 Series 2007, both my high beam and side lights have stopped working all together. No dash error, nothing! I checked and there is no current going through to the lights.

I believe it’s footwell module but not entirely sure.
BMW service has been as usual useless. They checked the car 4 times already and they simply said we don not know what the problem is.
After checking the OBD2 errors, i came up with the idea of just changing the footwell module and see what happens as I had the errors there (attached bellow) and as well as that I was getting desperate as my MOT is running out today.
My car is currently at the service for change of footwell module which quoted as £720!

Something scared me is that they said it’s not guarantee that it will be fixed. Now I am panicking.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the issues might be? All the error codes appeared after I messed around with the codings.

Welcome to the forum, danny :wavey:

So you were "playing around with the coding" and somehow this has become BMW's fault?
It's difficult to say why this has happened without knowing what you were aiming to do [and why] and/or which parameters you changed.

Not what you'll want to hear, but it may be that the car will have to go back to BMW for a complete software update to restore factory default settings. Hopefully the change of module you mention will fix it for you.

    Thank you!

Haha no, i meant they never manage to find the problem. To be fair Berry Heathrow has been the worst one i’ve ever been. Once they had my car for a day for recall, when i went to pick it up they said oh we forgot to do yours so leave it here with us... obviously I didn’t
By saying that i meant when we pay £140 for diagnoses, I am hoping they can find the issue! But in my experience, they never did.
When I had the engine light, they simply offered me to change my car rather than finding the problem or fixing it even if I have payed for diagnoses, they never found the issue.

I was aiming to add some personalised stuff like I currently have the beep when I lock the car just to make sure it’s locked as I always forget.

I am just worried that when they said it’s not guaranteed to be fixed, by spending that much money, what options wojld I have if it wasn’t the footwell module.

I'm afraid that seems to be the standard approach across the Dealership network these days. :(

Do you have any good BMW Independent garages near you?

There is one quite far tho, but they looked and said it’s electrical issues and they recommend me to take it to the dealership.
I wasn’t able to find an independent electrician.

The problem you’ve got is the dealer can’t change the same level of coding as you have accessed and they also have no idea what parameters you have changed so I don’t see how they can guarantee any repair. When changing anything on coding at that level you need to log exactly what changes you make to what. There are a few forums for coding that seem to have some incredibly knowledgable people on, I would say they quite often have more knowledge of the values than most people in the factory will even have let alone the dealers.

Makes complete sense if I asked for reset the coding. But my understanding is the coding would be stored in the footwell module right? And by changing the footwell, and programming it as fresh, it would get rid of all the wrong bits and pieces I have done? Or I am mistaken

Coding and electronics are foreign lands to me, but won't the replacement module need coding to your car?

Well I am an electronic phD student but it is still a mystery to me hence the burned footwell module

Yes they are coding it specifically for my car right now.
So the module was £416 and programming was £220 and £120 for personalised codings

My tuppence worth having never used Carista
You have bricked the FRM module, I’m sure that’s the terminology they use when irreparable damage has been effected
Being unfamiliar with the software, prior to effecting change is there not a cache file template made before writing
    change
I know Carly has, this enable easy rectification

From the error codes, it reads a bit more concerning, certainly more than just a lamp issue, we’re those faults present before.
I’m more than sure the only method to correct is to replace FRM and reimagined the software to factory standard as pinpointing the specific faults will be very time consuming
Coding doesn’t have to be complicated, though there is a difference between basic and advance user, the Carly module offers most possibilities with the removal of the user detriment - relatively simple out the box!
Too many people get hung up with the coding possibilities and forget that if the hardware isn’t present no manner of software will effect the function....

Yes if the only changes made are in the frm then a new one will fix it.

I'm no expert at coding, but have successfully changed a couple of functions on my F30. But all the documented advice recommends creating a backup of the existing data before attempting to make changes, so that the system can be restored if necessary. I also wrote a clear coding list to follow each step.
    Cation is the best approach.

If your actions in coding have caused the damage you can hardly blame the BMW dealership. Depending on what has happened, it could be difficult to find the fault.

    Good luck.
