This happens a lot on Audi A2's as the jacking points (for a trolley Jack) are not obvious, with the A2 being aluminium it easily dents the floor.

I've just bought a jack for the Macan along with a spare wheel for emergencies. Its scares the life out of me looking at the flimsy jack that has to reach the height of an SUV, an accident waiting to happen if care is not taken. I'll stick with my trolley jack at home at least.

 

Sometimes I wonder about humanities capacity to exist....

Similar issues a few years ago with my Alfa GT. this and a metal sill that wrapped under the car, one tyre fitter jacked the car up on this and dented it massively. Cost the garage a fortune to repair the car.

 

For motorists, take something as simple as, "fill the engine with oil"...

On a side note, there seems to be a lot of confusion now that BMW have visuals for tyre pressure and tyre temperature. Many just don't grasp that tyres warm with use and the pressure rises. Even BMW have given pages (of technical training) to describing exactly what happens and the need to take on board pressure changes with temperature. That's just for the technicians!

Now get to the customer, the software is updating the recommended running pressure on the fly. Now ask the user to work out what pressures they should be running. Then add the, "I've always run 35psi" type user. Can't grasp they have been running something like 40 - 41psi, at 70mph on the motorway.

I will admit to calling them out change a wheel.... not a snowflake, just on my way to a wedding, in my finest, and whilst I didn’t want to spoil the threads but didn’t mind missing the church service as long as I got there for the reception....

 

Changing a wheel on the motorway is not for the faint hearted....
Sometimes a big orange / yellow van with flashing lights all over it, parked behind is a better option than getting ran into with a 40 ton lorry....

that is the beauty of run flats just drive off the motorway to a safe location or if not great a distance drive home

 

I suppose this topic is highlighting reasons why run-flats are being used. Users can't change wheels, or don't desire to do so in difficult situations.

Hadn't read your post before posting mine.

I recall reading comments when BMW first introducing run-flats, getting the flack they did for doing so. Appears the idea of having run-flat tyres was one of the most common requests from customers.

Perhaps they were shown a jack and asked how they would fit it under their car.

I had to call AA out once for my 1st car i had I think, simply because I couldn't get the nuts undone to get the wheel off. Had the spare type out etc but nuts wouldn't budge, I can only assume due the the cars age, either the nuts had seized a bit or someone had used one of the guns the garages use to do the nuts up and it was too tight. Now with runflats, no more changing tyres, if I get a warning come up on the dash, i just drive to the nearest garage or dealership and get it checked/repaired/replaced. If i'm using the car for a holiday then I generally will make a note of where the nearest garage is where i'm staying incase I need to visit them Also gives me peace of mien if parents are out in my car, if they get a notification they don't need to worry about changing it, can simply either come home or visit a dealer/garage to get it repaired/replaced, which obviously i'd get the bill for promptly on my return home I do find it strange that BMW/Mini seem to be the only ones with runflats, merc/audi had run flats but they require you to use the can to inflate the tyre which i'm told by a friend of mine in turn ruins the valve/sensor on the tyre so you need to get new one etc, seems odd to me but maybe BMW have the patent etc? Bit like the Ford front heated windscreen, they had the patent so no one else could use it, not sure if still the same, but was quiet effective when it worked, naturally my one failed so needed a whole new screen. Fortunately was covered under warranty.
