So I now own an F34 which as most will no have frame less glass. However when opening the hatch the water on the rear screen rushes down the screen along the sides and into the boot  Nothing is missing and drains are clear so what's the fix??? Must be the same for the X6 as I looked at one today and the rear hatch is the same. I appreciate it could just be the volume of water but with powered opening you can not restrict the opening speed only the opening height. Design fault or what:mad:.

    Advice as usual pls.

    Thanks

    Rgds

    Pete

l have no experience with the 3GT but on reading your post l was thinking this not something l have ever noticed with the 5GT

but on further inspection the 5GT has a sort of roof spoiler attached to the top of the glass and that diverts the water to the channels at the edge when the hatch is lifted so not really a problem on the 5GT but l would imagine it would be very annoying and inconvenient to have this happen every time you open the hatchback

Ah now that's the spoiler I have been looking for as I believe it will sort the issue. Is it a retro fit or genuine?

    Thanks!

it was standard fit on the 5 GT and think the X6 may have something similar fitted as standard

l was surprised after reading your post and looking at pictures of the 3GT hatch that they had not fitted a small spoiler at the top of the glass on that model

just looked at the BMW approved used website and every 5GT on the site has the small spoiler on the top of the hatch l thought after your post it may have been an LCl addition but even this 2011 SE has it so it is not only on the M sports cars either PRE LCl 5GT.jpg

l saw your post showing the parts diagram from real OEM showing the part but it is not listing a part number for it which must be very frustrating

Ah yes see what you mean I have just done the same for the 3GT on autotrader and no spoilers on any  Need to sort something, looking at the carbon fibre rubber spoiler strip that you can buy on ebay / amazon trouble is car is dark grey and you can only get black, white, red, blue & carbon fibre

seems very strange that real OEM shows the part but are not listing any part numbers for the performance kit

l have seen the ones you mention and they all seem to be from the far east

Both my 5GT’s had that roof spoiler and I never had an issue. However, just before I sold the 535 GT the inside of the tailgate started holding water, even on a dry day opening the boot had water pouring out of the tailgate frame. I can only assume I had a blocked drain or something not allowing the water to drain from the tailgate. I wasn’t bothered as I was px’ing the car, so never really investigated. I wonder if you have a similar issue.

There is no external drains as such tho being a frame less boot the water just runs off the top as it lifts and pours straight onto the roof. The channel between the roof and the rear hatch is very narrow & simply fails to take the quantity so it would seem. The spoiler would catch the water and then it would drain out once the boot was closed again.

    UPDATE from another bmw forum:

There are two drain holes under the spoiler and if they are clogged then you'll have this shower of water pour into the car. I had it until I cleared the drain holes. If you press the button to raise the spoiler and then take a hose and spray water into the drain holes you can unclog them and you'll literally hear the water draining.

The attached pics show the location of the drain holes, they look like a square H on each side, and if you open the hatch you can see the rubber exit hole where the water should come out.

    Will be checking tomorrow!!!
