Car returned from dealers today after I-level upgrade due to the common idrive reboot issue on my NBT-HU (pro nav screen). First impressions are good nav seems to be faster as does the whole NBT unit + a couple of extra features on the dash. Cost was £99 inc vat with a free courtesy car for the day. If this fails to fix the issue then its a new head unit which will be covered under warranty. Situation well handled by Coopers of Chelmsford and very prompt service(y). So if you car starts to suffer the same issue then this is the fix.:D

You can do it yourself if you have the correct files (which I have) however flashing modules is not a good thing to try and do on your drive:whistle:

    Cheers

    Pete

Flashing modules on my drive is exactly what I do :) Did they actually do a firmware upgrade? I. E the same I would do with esys? Or was it just the Software Update that can be downloaded from Connected Drive?

Full software update whole car I didn’t do it as I don’t have a big enough charger. Everything back to factory, memory seat settings, locking, lighting, TPMS. + if they killed the car it would of been fixed under warranty

Ahh I see. I have the full psdzdata, I have only updated the gearbox ecu for the Alpina flash. There were quite a lot of modules but I haven't played around with those.

For the flashing I built my own charger from a server power supply, I modified it to output a constant 14.0V and will provide up to 55 amps which should be enough. Cost about £45 to make (y)

For me it wasn't worth the aggravation of sorting a charger etc + with a TSB out for the repair & the car under warranty this was the safest option. Had it all gone wrong or a module had failed when flashing it would of been repaired under warranty as will the NBT if this doesn't fix it. Although the service advisor said that they have had no failures since the fix was launched. Interesting to find that they are doing at least 3 cars a week with the issue. £99 inc vat + a wash and vac is for once a good price from a dealer I feel. As 2 local independent's wanted a lot more (£125 - £150) and no courtesy car and of course no warranty support if things failed.

Oh if I had a warranty and there was a TSB for a fault in the idrive unit I'd be getting it done under warranty too (y) What was the TSB btw?

    Well the TSB is here

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10136738-9999.pdf

However despite the dealer saying it fixes 95% of cars unfortunately mine wasn't one of them! The idrive rebooted again this morning half way through a journey using the nav so now it's a new head unit as per the TSB. Thank fully I have the BMW extended warranty via Mondial so i'll just have to pay the excess which is £250.00. However I have asked for a refund of the £99 paid yesterday as it obviously didn't fix it, it will be interesting to see what the dealer comes back with.

Pain in the arse to be honest thank fully tho as a shift worker I can arrange for the car to go back in and get a curtesy car without having to take holiday If you don't have warranty the new head units are £2,000 + vat :eek:and the current labour rate is £150.00 + vat:mad:. So to get it fixed at a dealer is going to cost nearer £3,0000:eek::eek:. Personally I would be looking at an upgraded Evo ID6 retro fit system from a donar car as it can be done supplied, fitted and coded for £1,600:D

I'd be asking for the £99 back too. Hope you get it sorted.

Well they have agreed to refund the £99 against my warranty excess (y). New idrive head unit on route from germany for fitting / coding etc next week, so far so good:D
