the gov.uk website has launched a vehicle checker to see if you can drive in the new clean air zones in Leeds and Birmingham without paying the daily clean air zone charge as my daughter is studying at university of Birmingham l was keen to see if would be charged for going to visit her which at present would be leave the M6 at junction 6. Aston expressway. and then the A 38 through the queensway tunnels to get to Selly oak. turns out my car can enter the ULEZ in London and the clean air zone that is coming to Leeds but if l want to drive through Birmingham it will cost me £8.00 a day l guess the website requires some further work to iron out such anomalies vehicle.check.drive-clean-air-zone.service.gov.uk tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle
Interesting. Thanks for the reminder! Picking my boy up from Nottingham Uni next Friday, dropping him at New St station. I was wondering if I would be charged, not until summer 2020, £8 a day. Checked my wife’s car, 2013 1.4tfsi Audi A1, no charge at all.
yes they were meant to be bring the clean air charge for Birmingham before the summer of this year but reading into it a bit more they may have to delay the roll out a bit good luck with your trip to drop off at your new street the streets around the station can be gridlocked at certain times of the day if l am staying in town l tend to use the train rather than driving in as parking is £20.00 for 24 hrs then add the fuel and the train is cheaper and a lot less stressful
That's going to hammer retail businesses in all those cities, as diesel fuels approx. 30% of UK cars.
Indeed, I live in Sutton, 90% of the time get the train in. He’s asked me nicely, so I am obliging as a good Dad. Already know the journey will be fun.
Just for a laugh I checked my M5. No charge in either leeds or Birmingham yet I have to pay £560 rfl each year
they are trying to make the city a car free zone and have spent a fortune on cycle routes and the trams and to be fair would not drive into Birmingham city centre and park for the day as it is to bloody expensive. l parked for six hours one day n the selfridges multi storey and it cost about £15.00 so when l drive to Birmingham l park at Natalie's house and use the bus to get into town
even though it is a gas guzzling behemoth it has got to be ok to drive in the city because it is not a dirty diesel
This will cause utter carnage in the summer. Birmingham is a traffic no-go at the best of times, with people not knowing who is/isn’t charged it will either be empty or hell. Four years ago I used to commute from NE B’ham through the city to the SE for work. It would take me 35 mins in the morning, 6:30am, and then up to 120 mins to get home.
But your car is Euro6, so how come? I just tried my Macan and no charge in either. Edit, I tried my old 535d GT and sure enough it’s £8 to drive into Birmingham. So Macan is Euro6, 535d also Euro6, so why the charge?
l think it is an age thing my car is a January 2015 car and the Euro 6 standard was introduced in September 2015 so Birmingham seems to think it is not Euro 6 compliant
l think it is just an anomaly with the website and that is one of the reasons that the introduction of the clean air zones has been delayed until July
l found this on the RAC website and the section at the very bottom highlights the same issue that l have found
There was a story on the local BBC Midlands news this week of a man who owns a Toyota hybrid, and that was showing as needing to pay. He had been questioning this and the reported suggested that there were still several glitches in the software, hence the delay in rolling out the system.
l have actually come to quite like going to Birmingham in the couple of year that my daughter has been staying there lots of great places to go out for food and drinks and lots to do otherwise with shows, cinemas and shopping if you are in to that sort of thing and what they have done to New street station is a million times better than it was l wouldn't want to go live there but l do enjoy a weekend away there every now and then
