Pie in the sky or what

Hi guys,just picked up my new to me car 330d 16plate and assumed all the documents were with it .However when home realised there was no service stamp book.Phoned dealer straight away and was assured that the “newer” models don’t have a service book now.As thread title says is this pie in the sky or am I still living in the past.

Service history should be recorded on the I drive, my vehicle menu.
Unfortunately I dont think it tells you what work was carried out just the date and mileage when serviced

 

Service history is on the I drive, some people buy a paper book to get stamped at the same time. On the I drive it will tell you what service items were carried out (as long as the service advisor correctly sent them before hand) and the dealer code that did the work.

 

Thanks guys mind at rest a bit now although I’d rather see the service down in black and white with a stamp next to it .

Same with my wife’s Audi A1, no book or stamps, all stored on the car computer. The 2013 F30 I had was the same. I couldn’t get used to not having a good old fashioned paper book!

 

Prior to the X1 going for its first oil service the idrive records showed the Pdi being carried out. When car came back it only indicated the first oil service. I was told that the idrive does not always keep all the records just the last one but the BMW system has the full history.
Also when car went in for the service the Vechile check was due in 16,000mile but after service it was due in 19,000miles same time as the next oil service

I bought a service book and a BMW stamp!

 

if it has a full BMW service history then it will be stored on the key fob. so first thing that happens at the service desk is a key read

in the ideal world all the servicing that was carried out should be visible on the i drive under vehicle information but sadly many dealers are lazy and do not update the information on the i drive

 

They shouldn’t need to enter the odometer reading for the electronic service history, it’s done from the key read, they just have to tick or untick items as required then send the data to add it to BMW’s central server.

 

when my car had its first service work carried out l got home checked the l drive and Nada nothing l had to wait until the car was back at the dealers to get the l drive updated with the service work that had been carried out

l will have to look at my l drive for the MOT record as l have never noticed that on the service history

 

just looked at my car and all service history is recorded but l could not see the MOT history

 

Hi guys once again thanks for your input ....one final question ...car is on 32000mls what should it have had done to it service wise up till now .

16 plate at 32k miles.

Service interval based on mileage would be around 20k miles, so yours would be either that or 2 years whichever comes first IIRC.

I would therefore expect to see two services plus one or two brake fluid changes.

All this is BMW's way of ensuring you always have your car serviced at one of their dealers rather than a decent indy who can do the same job for 1/3 of the price. There used to be something called Competiton Law that prevented companies from building monopolies like this. So if you do have it serviced at an indy, keep all the receipts.

Always updates the car computer, even corrected the MOT date that Sytners had forgotten.

Receipts are key, book or I drive service history is easy to fake. You can even order service books online and choose what dealer stamps you want where from a long list. At least with receipts they’re more likely to be genuine and there’s an actual paper trail if someone wanted to check.
When BMW first brought out the idrive history it was only dealers that could upload the data to bmw servers, this meant that if an Indy was able to register a service on the idrive somehow, if ISTA was then used to restore the data it would only put stuff from the bmw server. I believe that there’s now a system or systems that indys can use to add the data properly, probably due to block exemption.
