Just wondering whether anyone has used this type of repair panel on their E46 with success. The bubbling on my panel is only about the size of a five pence piece, but it'll only get worse.

That panel would still need to be fixed and painted. Why not have the arch done properly with a rub down, treat rust a paint spray?

As said , treat the rust now before it gets worse . I got a small bubble on my E46 last year and I rubbed it down and treated it with Kurust and touched it in with undercoat and the properly coded paint , it came up almost perfect . I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was only surface rust when I rubbed it down and I m sure yours will be the same . If you run your hand under the lip of the rear arch you ll probably find lots of crud which has been thrown up by the rear wheels , this is the cause of your rust so make sure you clean that off regularly . Good luck with it .

So many people neglect the inner arches (when washing cars), where the crud holds the moisture

Exactly , my neighbours son recently bought a pre Facelift E46 and knowing I had one for years took it over to show me. First thing I did was run my hand under the rear arch and pulled out lots of crud . Told him he had to clean that out regularly , as you say, that s where the dampness for the rust originates from , the inside of the arch .

I'll just have to put up with the fact that there will be bubbling paint on the wheel arches which I'll have tended to (until the car gets replaced when I retire).

had my mums 1.3 popular plus as a first car, and moved onto a 1.6 harrier with quarter bumpers. The engine seized so had it rebored to 1700cc with twin webbers. Cut the front springs and clamped the rear leaf springs ...... Those were the dayssssss

I did very similar with my 1963 Ford Classic 1500 2 Door , not sure Escorts were on the go in 1969 or they were just in production . Blocks on the rear axle , chopped the front springs , bored out to 1650 , Twin Webbers , GT Head , Fast road cam , 51/5 J Steels on the front , 6J steels on the rear . Got along the road very nicely and handled like a dream .

You canny beat the sound of Twin Webbers sucking and blowing on full throttle. .

My Dad had two of these, one was a super mirafiori with the 2 litre twin cam engine, we drove to South Spain in it.

I had the 1600 in Champagne Yellow for my first one and it went like stink , I stuck Wolfrace Wheels on it , and it looked very smart. ., then I progressed to a 2 Ltr Orange Super Miriafiori , and it was really fast . Fiat had really good engines compared to many other cars then and were quite a bit faster than many cars back then .Always wanted the Fiat 124 Twin Cam Sport Coupe and just missed out on one and I ended up with the Super Mirafiori .
