The EU is aiming for all new European vehicles to be equipped with Intelligent Speed Assistance by 2022, ISA will limit speed automatically in accordance with local speed limits and the department of transport say that the ruling will apply in the UK

it will be a sad day when big brother limits the the speed that we drive at with technology

From what I've read in the news today it can be switched off, maybe the same way a start/stop function can be disabled? I'm struggling to see the point of this device as most of us already have cars with speed limiters, though it has to be switched on manually. I guess the EU bosses must think we are incapable of controlling our cars.

the big thing that struck me is the Telematics that will also be fitted in conjunction with ISA (intelligent Speed Assistance)

that is the bit that struck me

1984 is arriving sooner than you think. It's all about control to those in power.

I read this also, i presume the black box will record where you go, what road etc not just the speed and will no doubt be sent to insurance companies etc so if you drive over speed limit insurance will go up.

I also thought it was only for new vehicles from 2022? as i was thinking change car in 2021 and drive it for as long as possible to avoid this lol

That sounds like a good plan. Maybe we will become like Cuba and keep 'old' cars on the road forever....

Or maybe build a kit car? It would be a good excuse to buy a Cobra replica!

So ? are they prepared to accept the loss incurred from Speeding Fines ? We already have Speeding Cameras , Average Speed Cameras as it is . Going to be a lot of redundant Speed Cameras eventually What happened to the driverless car ? is that now out the window as well ? . Big Brother is watching you !

sadly it will be standard kit in new cars well before the 2022 required by date, there are quite a few cars on the market now that already have intelligent speed assistance, Euro NCAP will award extra points to a car that has ISA fitted, so chances are it will be standard kit on BMW,s well before 2022

this will put an end to a massive revenue stream and all the millions that they are spending on speed cameras on managed motorway speed cameras will be more money wasted

we have now got the temporary 20 MPH limit on roads outside schools, i went through one section normal limit is 40MPH and it was an hour after school close and the 20MPH signs were still lit all the little darlings were at safely home playing on their Play stations and X boxes and the school crossing patrol was also long gone but we still had to adhere to a 20MPH speed limit passed the school

What about motorbikes, vans, HGVs etc, will they still have these compulsory speed limiting contraptions fitted? Not that I'm particularly against speed limiters, I use mine every time I'm on the road, but taking such a lot of driving control away from a driver can't be right.

I am hoping having it fitted as standard, and actually having a law that it must be used are two different things.

Otherwise one day I will go from a Porsche to the MR2

As others have said, think of the reduction in new car sales, job loses etc.

If it is a law that it must be active, then turning it off would be risky if you have a crash or hit a person. No passing go on your way to jail !

What with this and Brexit, I think my retirement to the Philippines is rapidly getting nearer.

Its all just a load of b******x , so tired of it all.

Just more rules and regulations from Brussels. Orwell 's 1984 has arrived, just 35 years later than predicted.

I'm thinking it will be just like the traction control button. You'll use it most of the time, for the safety and security it offers, but sometimes you'll need to switch it off

I'd be surprised if, in addition to reporting if you exceeded the laid-down limit, it did the same if you switched it off while on public roads [it'll know because of satnav signal] and shopped you with a record of speed while it was off.

I'm not sure as to whom or what you are referring, but my old Renault is restricted to about 70mph only by my sense of wishing to keep it in one piece, and my BMW is electronically restricted to approximately (a fixed)155mph. My Yamaha goes way beyond that (I believe:rotate:).
