    Which side of the Clyde is that?

    I'm guessing Helensburgh, Cardross or somewhere close.

    I had the heated screen on one of my RR which was G registered,and found it very useful, I next had it on the X type jag ,( it was not on the P38 RR) the only bit of useful gear in the car. I had that car because I did not like the looks of the first 5 series -- e60-- and a new 3 ser was due out. I had it for around 18 month then retired due to ill health.
    I do wish the cars since then had them fitted,but I am not buying one of Henry,s just for the heated screen.

    The heated screen on my Freelander kept on failing - I had three fitted within a year - annoyingly it was always the drivers side that failed.

    The current BMW method is to have an electrical heating element within the ventilation system actuated by the 'screen demist' button.

    Not quite as fast as having metal filaments within the glass but warm air certainly comes out of the screen vents within a few minutes and even heavy frost is cleared quicker than one could scrape it off with the help of a de-icer spray.

    Of course it works best if the Climate Control is set to auto ensuring that the warm air is also dry air.

    On the X1 f48 I do find it takes a while to demist the screen, but this seem to be done to car only having one demist vent in centre of car not the two I always had previously.
