hi. Anyone else had this strange thing with their keys?
Took my car into Bmw today for an oil change, passed over the key and was told it wasn’t due yet for another 2000 odd miles yet car was saying it was overdue! Then when I picked the car up they’d recorded the wrong mileage which they reckoned was taken off the key but this mileage was round 12000 miles less than actual and less than when it was last serviced. Bmw said they didn’t know why the data was different and to bring it in for diagnostics at a cost of £140!
Politely declined as for that cost I can live with it being different info!

    £140, they’re having a laugh.

Did you use the key you normally use with the car or a spare key? If a spare that will be why. There’s a routine to update the service data on the key, can’t recall it but it’s nothing too complex.

Might a difference in mileage affect the re-saleability of the car at some point in the future, i.e. it'll look as if it's been 'clocked'?

It’s the key we always use not the spare.
Not heard of a routine to update the key etc I’ll have a google!

My reckoning is no one is gonna be reading the key when they buy it or I px it, even if they did the mileage will be a lot higher on the car / service history / mot’s etc to show it’s not been clocked. Be different if the key was showing higher mileage than the car.
Would probably have considered getting it sorted if it was £140 to fix it but at that price to diagnose then god knows to actually sort it I can do without the cost right now.
