I’ve had my G30 for a couple of weeks and have now hardwired my dash camera to the fuse box.

I used this guide by @Johnny Grabble. It was a really good place to start

I found that by removing the drivers side A pillar cover and then the foam padding, there is a route down through the dash that brings the cable out right next to the fuse box.

I had wanted to use fuse slot F59 like Johnny, but my carpet pushed on the fuse tap so I used F56 in the end.

I used this hardwire kit from amazon.

You will need a t20 torx screwdriver, trim removal tools (or something similar) and maybe some electrical tape. I also used my 15 year old son to lie on his back in the foot well to do the fiddly bits, this was very effective at protecting my back

I didn’t take photos from the beginning, so it looks dark in the first photos because I took them at the end of the install‍♂️

Use a trim tool to remove the plastic AIRBAG clip, that reveals a t20 screw, take that out and the A pillar cover can be pulled away from the pillar. There are 2 push fit clips on the A pillar and the bottom has two tabs which slot into the dash. A bit of wiggling and out it comes. The foam padding just pulled out and you can see there is already a wiring loom going into the dash, that is where I routed the cable.

This is from the footwell looking up, you can see some sky.

This is the ground point I used. Ignore the fuse position, that is what happens when you don’t explain things clearly to your slave (child). I used position f56 which is circled. It is a switched live and the power shuts off after a few minutes once the car is locked.

I tucked the cable above the head lining.
The rear view mirror surround pulls off, I routed the cable through there concealing the ferrite bead in the void (sorry for the crappy photo) and the cable pops out the other side to power the camera.

I think its ended up as a very neat install. It took about 90 minutes, but that included figuring out how to remove parts and how to get through the dash. If i did it again, probably 30-45 minutes.

    Any questions?

This may be useful to you, F59 is closest to the front of the car, F20 is closest to the back of the car.

Nice job there. Fortunately, I have a friend who installs mine at mates rates, so I ring him up and bobs your uncle.

I am that friend to my friends. They repay me with short notice requests and red wine

Excellent information and useful photos. I'm just about to hardwire a Road Angel Halo into my 640i GT G32 (2018) and it shares the same design. This will save me ages in trying to figure out a route down to power. All I've got to do now is find a way from the front of the car to the rear windscreen, Thinking of going across the top if that's possible. Thanks !

I did this on my M3, after removing the front lighting unit i fed a length of small plastic trunking above the roof lining. Removed the rear screen high level brake light and was able to connect the front and rear cams relatively easily with no visible wiring. I also removed the centre roof light unit to help pass the trunking through.

Oh... and welcome to the forum
