I'm struggling to pair either mine or lady wife's iPhones to our new to us E93. We have an iPhone 6+ and i7. Are these incompatible? Note the radio is a BMW Professional. Is there a web site where we can check compatibility?

Might be worth putting your VIN in here to see if you have the latest media software:

    https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

Something I did as soon as I got my 2012 E92 a few years back, it needed updating and this helped with connections etc.

I don't think we have a USB port to connect into? I guess any software updates need to go via the diagnostic port?

Is there one in the glove box? To the right of the opening.

I've had a jolly good look around but there appears to be a void where a socket might be?

Yep, checked in there and there is a phone cradle and 3.5 jack socket plus the 12v socket but no USB that I can find.

Hmmm. Looks like no USB updating then.

    What year is the car?

Have you checked on the i-drive to see what phones or other Bluetooth devices are still paired to the car.

Previous owners and/or garages are famous for not deleting devices when the car changes hands.

If there are any phones left from before, delete them as there is a limit to how many can be paired at any one time.

You may well also find that previous owners have not kept the software up to date so check it here:

The car is a May 2011 reg. No I Drive. There were 2 phones already paired which I deleted. Many thanks for the links, however without a USB port I’m not sure how t input an update? I guess I can ask my local Stealer?

That does surprise me it doesn’t have any USB ports. Not at all sure how you update the software without these.
Possibly using the ODB2 port down by the bonnet release handle.

Maybe give this bloke a call/email:

    https://www.satnavupgrades.co.uk

I used him to get my F32 upgraded to Apple CarPlay, excellent service and support. He does also do software updates.

Have you recently updated the phone software?
Many guides suggesting fixes that include restarting the phone, turning BT on then off, forgetting connections then reconnecting etc.

Are you definitely using the correct pairing process? Do your phones see the car when you search for devices?
if I remember correctly the only updates for Rad 2 systems are via ISTA/P programming, on earlier systems the phone had its own ecu and later cars it was moved into the radio itself.

Yep the phone sees the car, but the car does not give a code to complete the process. We have a BT adapter that will pair with the phones and iPod, so this should work.

On my E90 the phone dictates the code when pairing and needs repeating on the car side.

The code can be anything, when you press to connect on your phone it will either ask you to enter a code which can be any 4 digit number, then once entered the car will ask for the same code.

Brilliant, many thanks. All sorted now. Just made up a code and applied to car and phone and happily paired. Many thanks for your advice.
