Hi guys just wondering if any one on here has had there 4series remapped?
I'm looking to get it done in cpl weeks and was wondering if any one has any recommendations. I live in North East near Middlesbrough, a friend of mine had a remap done by a company called Big Fish in Stokesley. Any body know any thing bout them. Apparently they do custom remaps and rolling road dynos before and after. Hoping someone has been here or recommends somewhere else.
    Thanks in advance

I know some people like re-mapping their cars, but personally I wouldn’t. I’ve worked for several VM’s over my career, including BMW, and I know how much investment in time, facilities and validation goes into calibrating an engine. However smart a re-map engineer is, they are going to compromise the vehicle. Likely to be durability, and emissions issue. Any warranty you might have will be void.

I can’t help you with any companies in the NE I’m afraid, but I can offer my experience of several mapping journeys.
Back in 2002 I had a Saab 9-5 mapped, this involved sending the ECU details away to be cloned, a new ECU was then installed. I was very worried about messing the car up, so did reams of research and went with a reputable company called Elk Parts. Had the work done by my local specialist.
Next car to be tuned was a 2007 Alfa 159 diesel. Again after loads of research I used Angel as the tuning company. The 1.9jtdm unit had a lot of choice as this was the same unit used in Vauxhalls, Fiats etc. The process was very professional and I didn’t have any issues with the car.
Second remap was on another 159 1.9jtdm, this time it was already on the car when I bought it. Dubious from the beginning as this was a “bloke with a laptop off eBay” type of remap. I had nothing but problems with that engine, seemingly brought on by the map.
On my last car, 2012 E92 320d, I also did a lot of research. Instead of a remap I went down the tuning box route. Got a BlueSpark Pro box, and I was very pleased indeed. Increased economy, smoother power delivery and a wee bit more power. No problems at all in the 12 months I had the unit of the car.
I’d say do your research and go into this well informed. Ignore peak power figures and listen to feedback.
Your engine isn’t a partially common one, so even more caution required. Possibly have a look at the BlueSpark box, great value and sort of warranty friendly as you can take them off!

    Ozzy,
Unicorn motor developments, they map on a rolling road for your vehicle, not on off the shelf / 'standard' map. They're based near Manchester which maybe a bit to travel but are very highly recommended for BMws as research should confirm.

The master there is Rick should you wish to get in touch.
