I fitted a 525tds motor into my 67 mk2 jag a year ago. It drives well and is very quick but the jag rear diff gives it a top speed of about 85mph which isn't good but that's why its quick! I'm just about to fit a 6 speed gearbox from a 120d. This should give me 106 MPH top speed. Its not about the top speed of course. While searching the net I noticed the 6th gear if I was to use a 6 speed from a 118d will give me a 130 mph top speed which is where I want to be. The gearbox from the 120d and the 118d look identical and even seem to have the same part numbers. Can anyone help me identify the gearbox with the higher 6th gear before I buy it. The 120d has a 6th gear ratio of 0.85 while the 118d is 0.65.
Hi & welcome to the forum. Can't advise with the specifics of your question, but if you do a side-by-side comparison of the parts here, you should be able to confirm or otherwise as to the suitability of the 'boxes. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select Oh, and before anyone else says it...... We like pics here, particularly of 'projects'
Sorry but struggled to put pics on////Urls? I know the suitability of the boxes but I need to know is it possible to identify a 6 speed with the higher ratio externally. IE by their part numbers.
Somewhere on this site I'm sure I've seen gear ratios quoted for the various models/engine combos. Browse/search with the afternoon coffee..... http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/modify.html As for the pics thing, you can u/load them from your pc, just make sure the file(s) aren't too big. Button at bottom right of these dialogue boxes.
