    Hi.

I have problems with my 2014 740D rear air suspension; both struts are deflating within 24 hours of the air pump filling them up. I've tried to find a garage in Cheshire that has experience with this issue e.g. replacing the struts but I'm having no luck! I don't want to go to the local BMW dealer as they are terrible! Can anyone recommend a garage who can help?

If it is the bags they're really easy to change. Like 20 mins a side. Most regular garages should be fine doing them.

Where it gets complicated is if it is not the bags. A genuine BMW compressor will be something like £800+ and a dealer may just chuck one in on a whim. An aftermarket one can be got for around £200. However easy to fit as well.

Specialist diagnostics are required to set the ride height (precisely) after the air bag replacement but I suspect most specialists, and maybe dealers, won't bother.

Thank you Jason. Unfortunately they're not typical air bags...they are sealed air springs/units and from what I can make out on utube they are fairly tricky to fit. I've had a couple of non franchise bmw specialist garages decline the work. Yep they're expensive even before the labour. If only I could find a garage willing and able to do the work!

Yes I see. I was talking from experience on 5 series and had made the (incorrect) assumption the 7 series would be similar.

Having had a look at the 740d the air spring unit looks pretty straightforward to fit - the main challenge being removing the shelf behind the rear seats.

The compressor looks pretty similar to the 5 series.

However I wouldn't be too quick to condemn the air struts...and both at the same time....a faulty valve block could be the issue.
