Posted previously my experiences with the wifes 2018 X1. It has already had 2 wheels replaced owing to corrosion and this week following the discovery of yet more "worming" under the lacquer a third wheel has been replaced. With 6 months of the 3 year warranty left I wonder if we will have to get the 4th changed ? On all 3 the corrosion has been on the spokes, well away from the centre cap
I will be keeping a close eye on it. Typically it only took her 2 weeks to scuff one of the replacement wheels...twice !
What style wheels are they? I had the worming problem on the spare set of wheels I had on my X3 some years ago. I had cleaned them off religiously and also coated them in WD40. To be honest this problem is so common it beggars belief why BMW persist in lacquer coating. More trouble than its worth.
I'd have to look up what the style number is It's an M sport and I think they are 18 inch wheels. Possibly the design of the wheels isnt helping, it is almost a 90 degree joint between the faces of the spokes, whereas other styles of wheels have a more gentoy curved surface where different faces of the spokes join. 2 have been replaced without quibble the third took a bit of persuasion but sorted in the end. Allegedly BMW inspect the damaged wheels when they are returned and if they dont agree with the dealer diagnosis the dealership stands the cost of the replacement .
Here you go, Ed - all you ever wanted to know about BMW wheel styles [but were afraid to ask...... ] http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/
Sorry to say this is out of date. Not got the F48 (later x1) on the list, unless I need to go to spec savers.
If it has the 18" M Sport for that year (2018 ) it most likely has 18" M light alloy Double-spoke style 570 M wheels. There is a 2018 M Sport down the road and they have them! If you have 19" wheels then could be. 19" Bicolour Double-spoke style 816 M light alloy wheels.
So it is , new models tend not to be on my radar as I'll never be able to afford one..... No need to go making any appointments.....
edthefed See attachment. Are these the wheels? Also listed below: https://www.originalwheels.com/bmw-wheels/x12018rims.php Slim... This link might be more useful at a later date. It still only goes to 2018. https://www.originalwheels.com/bmw-wheels/
