Oh how I wish we could have 1 week of access to the old "Land" for personal reasons.......my Adoption thread..... So many tears and smiles came from that. Would be be nice if I could show Rio the whole thing.....
Fantastic, well done for setting this forum up. I really missed BMWLand - it was by far the best UK focussed BMW forum. Glad to see many of the key contributors on here already. I only found out about the site from Cotswold BMW so it may take a while to get everyone! Whilst there was nothing I had to go to another forum but the quality of posts was poor and the moderators were biased, opinionated and constantly giving out incorrect and misleading "expert advice". Not in the same league as BMWLand by any stretch; so thanks again.
I think this is the general consensus, I found the same thing with other forums as well. Maybe because most of us are from the UK we are all on the same wavelength on here.
I've tried reading one of the other UK centric forums (bimmerforums? I forget) a few times, find my blood pressure rising at the misadvice and rubbish spouted, and don't sign up specifically to avoid this:...
Yes sounds familiar. You can pay certain individuals for BMW FSC map codes at knockdown prices [NOT]. Perhaps I should say knockup prices.
Hi. I posted a thread originally asking for some advice regarding adopting my daughter. didnt really know what response I would get. Got hundreds of views and over 100 replies. Very moving experience. Adoption went through smoothly-ish, and "Rio" is now 13 and in 2nd year of secondary school. Just wish now I had saved the post offline.
That's lovely news. Don't want to give you false hope but there may be a way of retrieving the data from BMWLand. Someone here mentioned that possibility. http://web.archive.org/web/20150315024510/https://www.bmwland.co.uk/ Choppertoo posted that link.
Hi All. I hadn't been on BMWLand for quite a few months. Tried to log on then found out the sad news. Sending my codolences to Matt's family and friends. Well done for getting this one up and running. Looking good so far. I've been without a beemer for 2 years now. Hankering after another one more than ever. I'm going to try to be a more regular visiter. Cheers, Rob.
"Page cannot be crawled or displayed due to robots.txt." - it was working honest! Gutted as I was looking into trawling and downloading as much as possible - other things got in the way as usual
Looks like someone has amended the robots.txt file on the original website to disallow internet archive access - gutted. See this link http://archive.org/about/exclude.php - seems this has been done intentionally and recently - and i'm afraid unless I can find out otherwise all the history has possibly been deleted ... not very happy with whoever decided to do this
A few of us have had these reminders, it's just automatically generated and nothing to get excited about apparently
Hi all, MikeS from the 'Land here. Can I just update everyone on the current situation re the 'Land forum, or at least it's content. As you can imagine the sudden loss of Matt was a massive shock to all his family and the ramifications were big, especially for the 'Land. The reason being that he had only just changed servers and my server admin access on the new platform had not been set up when he unfortunately passed away. The only, and I stress ONLY, reason for the 'Land not coming back is that no one knew what the new passwords and access were on the new server not even the family. Some of the core db tables appear to be corrupted and need rebuilding which is why I took the forum offline. There is still a great deal of sensitivity around Matt's loss and while I have been in touch on numerous occasions, I have still not been able to make any headway in either resurrecting the forum or gaining access to the 'Land forum data, but I haven't totally given up on this just yet. For those that didn't know the details behind the 'Land I should make it clear that the 'Land was a hobby to Matt, never a business, and he never made any money out of it nor did he ever try or intend to! So can all those who seem to feel able to comment and imply there is money involved, please reign in your comments as it is totally untrue and without any foundation or truth. And it is hurtful comments like these that are partly why the family are still sensitive over anything to do with Matt's 'Land legacy, so stop it please. I do still, slim as it may now be, hope to gain access to the forum db or even get it live again, but the timescale is totally unknown. When I do know what the future will be I will inform via the 'Land forum main page of the outcome. Regards to all my fellow 'Landers and friends - Mike
Thanks for the update MikeS. Hadn't noticed any commentary on the Land as a business interest, but can certainly imagine it was anything but, when I think about the huge amount of bandwidth and storage which must've been employed to support it. Matt provided a great Forum and created a great community, which certainly lives on here thanks to @The CO.
I sad to read that post, MikeS I can't say that I've seen anything untoward said or implied about Matt, or the old BMWLand - except sadness at his passing, condolences to his friends and family, and a certain disappointment that all the efforts put into BMWLand by Matt and all the other forum members who shared their wisdom and experience over many years has become unavailable. Hopefully that situation can be rectified, and a lasting legacy of Matt's achievements can live on as a testament to his efforts I'm sure that no-one here sought to offend.
