Any recommendations? Going in early June. I found Chateau d'Etoges, which looks very nice, and whilst I'm happy to splash out every now and then I have a Meldrew moment(s) when I'm being charged extra for breakfast. Given that I rarely have much beyond bircher and tea for brekkers, it irks me somewhat at €22 for this place. Also need secure, flat parking if poss. No dogs or wife, just me and the car. No real budget, just needs to be a nice place to stay (with breakfast included, obvs).

@The CO I know this was a couple of years ago but did you stay at Chateau d'Etoges? Thinking of spending 3 days there as part of a French holiday. Any feedback on this place? Sadly I wont be in a Ferrari Spider but using the 6 GC for it's GT abilities.

I did and it was very nice. The reason breakfast was so expensive was because of the free champagne that came with it! Breakfast itself was actually really nice anyway, local jams, pastries, etc but yes, free champers. There was an odd couple staying there at the time, him French and her elderly Japanese who brought their own food down for breakfast but would easily get through a bottle of champagne between the two of them. All very odd.

Our stay was overshadowed by the loss of our pup whilst he was with J in Croatia so unfortunately we didn't really explore too much as weren't really in the mood but it is ideally placed to explore. You can pick up the Champagne trail at the gates and away you go. Eating out is a bit limited, you have the hotel restaurant L'Orangerie or the place in the village, L'Atelier, just outside the gates. Both are fine but if you're staying for more than two nights you might want to explore other options.

No probs with parking, plenty of space. They managed to put me under the canopy next to the main building but the main car park itself is plenty big enough. I'd definitely go back.

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply. Much appreciated. I have not actually been to the Champagne region, just passed through, so I think a 2 or 3 night stop here after 9 nights in the Loire valley should do nicely before the tunnel back to Blighty.
