Oddly, sometimes reducing the voluntary excess decreases the overall premium.

Not managed to get it to work for me this year but last year it definitely worked.

It is a 'Stratford' converted by Autosleeper in the UK, based on a Peugeot Boxer window van, 2012 and now only on 47,000 miles.

    Hi gunrunner
It’s through a broker in glossop, Derbyshire, which was owned by a family member....( it is not now..)
So in truth I don’t know because my lad uses it......
But by putting his voluntary excess at £1000 it saved him a fortune on young drivers insurance.... all for £50....extra...
He’s used it for 3 years now.....
Hopefully as he edges past 21 years old it may not be so needed....???

That does make sense. If you leave it until your insurance is almost due, you're likely to end up paying more.
    I normally check the
comparison sites about 3 weeks before mine is due.

    Where does the time go?!

So the incessant calls to my mobile from Rainbow insurers (a 3rd party referral company) 3 times I've asked for my number to be removed and the numerous emails has reminded me that my insurances is due again.

Now get this, cheapest renewal through an aggregator (confused.com) is £299 via email. Brilliant I thought until I logged in and refreshed the quote with my new reg, it comes out at £529? Go figure? :confusedmore:

The plate in the email quote is retained and no details have changed so it's not pulling through an alternative vehicle.

So I look at the expired quotes list in confused.com and and refresh that expired quote. It comes out at £300 (this is without me updating the reg)

    So I'm all a bit confused.com ! :crash:

A bit more searching and it appears the general trending price is anywhere £500-£550.

So I may try and be a bit clever and take up the email quote now coming out at £300 and update the reg. Even if I have to pay a £25 fee, it's still saving £200...

First I will call BMW as I liked it when I was insured through them.

I was insured with BMW Insurance Services a few years back.

All was fine until after a couple of years they hiked the price - just like most other companies.

Yes... the same happened with L&V. It quite surprised me because they had not tried it on before. Anyway, I am now with NFU Mutual.

A similar experience - I was also with LV for a few years. They were always competitive at renewal, until they suddenly hiked the price one year.

I never found any trouble getting our company car policy (I retired 10 years ago) to include carrying explosives.

It was interesting a couple of years ago when my policy with nfu asked for the serial number of the trailer/s, it seems a few folk had a few ifor Williams but only insured one. Guess which one got stolen.
