We traded my wife's E53 in a week ago for an 18d Xdrive Xline, must say I'm really impressed so far. Plenty of room for a small family now the little ones big enough that the he wife doesn't feel the need to carry half of mothercare about with her and it's nice to see average mpg starting with a 4 instead of a 2 !! The X5 had been remapped to around 260-270 HP, so the grunt is missed a bit and overtaking now needs a bit more thought but the difference in weight and handling is staggering. It's also pretty refined, tyre noise is stil an issue but wind noise is much less than the E53 and engine noise is much quieter than my F20 inside the cabin. Has anyone got experience on here of remapping the 18d or using a good box (I've got a DTUK 3 channel system on my 125d after using their 2 channel system on another car for the last 2 yrs) ? 1st job after cleaning was to fit the headrest DVDs from the X5, little one now happy again.
Interesting - a similar change to what we did from E70 - F20. Although I missed the grunt of the X5 (to a large degree I still do given only the Z4 can get Close now and even then that's only by revving it out rather than relying on bucket loads of torque) I do find that with the mixture of speed limits and congestion, there is a big role for these smaller capacity engines. They still do 95% of everything we need them for, whilst being very fuel efficient. Can you post some pics of the outside too?
Nice looking car in XLine trim - Looks actually even more resolved than in M Sport guise. Like those wheels!
Yeah, the looks have grown on me Spuffington. The M sport just doesn't seem to look right to my eyes (I preferred the se spec on the E70 too) I think the bits of Black help to break it up on the X cars as opposed to being all colour coded.
