    Hi guys,

Not been on for a while and hope your all safe and well.

I just got warranty renewal through for my F25. Last year I paid £625 with no excess and no breakdown cover. I had two claims totalling just over £800, the car has just clicked over 65000 miles so I knew the premium would jump quite a bit. But I was more than pi55ed when the online quote was £1220.

Adding a £100 excess and taking off the breakdown cover took it to £880. Still a bit high so I phoned them looking for any sort of deal they may have and was more than shocked when she announced they would match last years price of £625 and chuck in complementary breakdown cover excluding home start. Result and paid right away before she changed her mind. She did make it clear that there would not be a deal next year. I then asked about taking out a monthly policy and if the price would stay the same throughout but she said they would increase the cost that after a year.

Well of course they'll do a deal. How many miles do you think the majority of policy holders are covering in the current climate, and how many repairs and repatriations will that avoid? Money for nothing.

I got a missed call from a number I didn't recognise, turns out to BMW warranty, guy left a VM, said to give hi a call as warranty has now expired and he can offer a better price than online quote and they are happy to renew the warranty even though it has expired.

I've not phoned them back as already decided not to renew it but I suspect they are happy to renew as i guess they have lower income at present with most of there places closed and doubt many people are buying cars off the website at present.

Give them a call Kev and see what the deal is. My car is 7 years old now and I have taken the full cover that includes wear and tear with no excess including breakdown cover for £12 a week. I spend that a day on coffee and takeaway food.

My car was 3 years old on 31st March...took out the extended warranty a couple of days before hand.

Absolutely no chance of negotiating on the price..."take it or leave it" I was told

My wife’s M3 comp warranty is up for renewal. Comp with £250 excess £793 (iirc), same as last year.

I need to phone and see if they can better it...

They normally never do a deal.

The issue OP had with the cost increase was the mileage going over 60,000 to make it jump considerably.

My M5 is at 63,000 miles now and I took out the warranty on a monthly basis with breakdown cover and it increases every year by a few Quid each month. Currently pay around £93 a month and just got it collected by them and taken to a dealer for snapped springs so going to get my moneys worth out of them this month for sure.

    Cheers

Annual payment £678, and that's with £250 excess and roadside assistance.
Paying monthly worked out £250 more expensive per year.

    That's for a 520d x drive.

Yet 335d x drive comes in far cheaper, despite having more complicated engine, same gearbox, transmission etc

Warranty costs seem to have jumped a lot compared to about 3 years ago

The M3 only does about 3,000 miles a year too.

I renewed warranty on my F30 330d for the third year running this January. It was exactly the same price at £520 pa (fully comp, £100 excess, incl Emergency Services). So maybe they've bumped up the premiums since January? :confusedmore:

This year’s is the same as last at £793, but further back than that - when it was the 330d that I was paying for - the price was more like £350, which even adjusting for the difference between cars, seems much better value.

I was paying £897 per year with £100 excess and ES on my old 535d GT when it was three years old and 25k miles. Seems to be a 5 series tax as I was paying about 40% more than the equivalent 3 series.

The quote for the M3 is comp with £250 excess and no emergency cover, but it only does 3k a year...

Will let it lapse and then renew in 3 months I think. It’s not going to breakdown whilst it’s stuck in the drive!

My 535i was £780 for comp £100 excess no emergency in 2018. I sold it in 2019.

Anyway, no deals available, other than a 3 month renewal period where they will honour the price offered and hold it for the next 3 months even though you have let the policy lapse.

5 series tax definitely...they claimed that the bigger the car /series the higher the premium when I spoke to them

Hence a 320d x drive is a lot cheaper than a 52pd x drive, despite having the same engine, gearbox, transmission, I drive etc etc !

Be interesting to see what they charge for the wifes X1 next year
