I came about this car by chance while pottering on the BMW approved used car site , sold my 2016 66 plate X5 40d M sport during lock down as I near enough got back what I payed for it over 2 years earlier . Unfortunately it didn`t drive or feel like the E53 sport X5 I had owned for so long , it had been Range Rover fied with its bouncy ride , didn`t help I had style 375M 21" wheels that tracked more like wagon tyres than car tyres being 285/35/21 front and 325/30/21 rears . The car also had 7 seats , pan roof , towbar , hud , low mileage 23k and 1 owner but which ever setting it was in it didnt feel at all sporty like the E53 that had only one setting firm . I was looking for a pick up for transporting the dog ( German shepherd ) that has to duck in the back of the 3 series G21 touring that replaced the X5 , it is a great allrounder , the wife loves it but I find it quite low and hard to get in and out of due to my health . Back to the search it was located in Berry BMW a place I had bought a car from before however being 300 plus miles away and a relatively old car I wasn`t completely sold . They generally dont sell cars more than a few years old but this was a trade in and it was that good it went up for sale rather than putting it in the trade . The car is a 2012 E70 Platinum silver , 1 owner , full service history , 49990 miles , just been serviced and new brake discs & pads , but not many extras . Complete with 12 months BMW warranty , 12 months road side assistance . Berry has been brilliant with their levels of service and the whole buying process has been as though I bought a new car excellent ! The car drives a lot more like the E53 which to me is a good thing , it is very clean inside and out and just needs one or two mods to make it perfect for what I need . Even the wife wants to drive the car more than the G21 . Why didn`t I just buy a new one ? availability and cost to spec a 40d with all the toys is over 90k A 3 year old car is still over 50k my 3year old car was 34k 3 and a bit years ago a 16k increase for the same year and model with zero options . This cost me less than the increase with a newly purchased set of 19" winters , 20/21" wheels etc . Once the warranty runs out I have the option to renew maybe then it wont be so cheap a car but nothing is any more .
Sounds like you are chuffed with the purchase, hopefully it will be a good one for you. Don’t forget.,,,,
Hi Wynne71 Yes I am chuffed ! Just got me thinking that the new car prices are now the cost of Detached houses when I was younger . The car doesn`t feel like a 10 year old car , starts , stops and goes but society today wants you to lust after the newest models even though they aren`t quite the same as the older models and are often a bit less involving . I also have a 2007 Boxster 3.4 S , yes its manual and again tried a new one and found it lacking , it had plenty of power 300 hp but sounded like a washing machine and had vague steering . Lastly my Jensen which has sort of retired like me , gets parked in the sun on hot days and drinks a bit too much at times . I will post some pictures when I give it a clean , have to ensure that no weeds are visible on the block paving though !
This was a bit of a trial to see if I could buy a useable car for the difference just to use for the dog run , tip runs etc , the wife`s car has been hammered over the last couple of years since selling the F15 and we have moved house twice .
