Just a thought, I notice that the 5 series section is not compartmentalised, yet the 3 series one is broken up into models F30 etc.

As a result the 5 section looks more active and dare I say more interesting. Is it worth combining the 3 section?

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

(feel free to tell me to 'Sod Off!')

I for one take no notice of the sections anyway, I just click the 'new posts' tab and it shows all posts since my last visit.
The 5 series section my be more active because 5 series owners are cool (y)

And me - I check through all the posts. ;)

I remember reading on the 'Land someone who said something along the lines of 'because I have a *series, I hardly ever read any of the other series forum sections'

I don't subscribe to that philosophy as we all share many things there being so much common technology and features.across the entire range.

    Hey Carl,
The spirit of this place does not hold the language of "sod off"

As per posts above, I also read the new posts, via the "Home" page and had to look real hard to back up my claim, as my recollection served me well!

In the first couple of days/ weeks of Bmwlander the ideas thread was very active,

    http://www.bmwlander.co.uk/index.php?threads/ideas-please.6/

Several posts and suggestions asked for the categorising of sub forums, the 3 series moderator took action and presented your subsections, though no other suggestions or requests came from other "series" as such the sub sections never materialised.

hope that clears it up, the Link above should access the thread and request

Regardless of the above and regardless of what you drive, these fine pages welcome all, I know for sure the old land, the 5 series section was always the busiest, but no need to feel left out, many of us love the model range and deprive ourselves of moving out with the comfort zone
I'm sure the co, shall keep the 3 series thread active with his new purchase, Likewise Singvogel always makes a welcome appearance, the problem is the 3 series is either too reliable or the 5 series owners are too fussy!
In no means feel left out, I'm actively perusing the 3 series touring (along with many others) of my next purchase, so please enlighten us with owners reviews,

I'm a "Show New Posts" reader, but I've seen excessive sub-forums on many sites and it's rarely a good thing on a forum. In this case, the E21/30/36 (and, looking at it, 46 too!) ones will be naturally quiet with nothing but long forgotten thread starters and low posting numbers which, in turn, is a major turn off to potential new members of older models who idly drop by and think about signing up. Result, the sub-forums never grow.

At least if they're lumped in with general 3-series stuff they're more likely to get replies from people who browse-by-forum ("Oh, I used to own an E36, just hit the flange-grommit with the choke-hammer") and just as likely to be found by people who are Googling "E21 fuel pump woes". Lumping them all together, the extra traffic of quiet sub-forums won't add anything detrimental to the busier ones while the busier ones will, effectively, keep the quieter ones going.

I am another supporter who likes to see sub forums for completeness. The sub forum system works well after the site has been going for a while with problems being put into the "series" folders making things easy to find.

I also use the "New Posts" button.

Brilliant - I like your style there, Scott.

It reminds me of 'Car' magazine back in the day when the editor was still George Bishop and we had regular contributions in eloquent pseudo-latin-speak from the likes of LKJ Setright.

We shall never see their like again - George was a gourmet (or do I mean gourmand) who wrote more about the food and drink he enjoyed consuming on his foreign road-test trips - I think he influenced me, more than a little.

Ah, those were the days - now where has my choke-hammer got to?

I should point out that there is a difference between what you get with the 'New Posts' button, and what is to be found on the Home page if you scroll down below the featured posts to reach the What's New' part where you get the latest 10 posts.

I tend to check the Home page first.

just new posts too for me, but before when I had my 6 I would look there first, then new posts and/or any answers to posts I had made, if waiting/hoping a reply.

I'm happy to do either - shall we put it to a poll? I don't see the point in empty subforums, but then they can also be useful if and when populated properly.
