Yes. I did tell them about my condition but didn't surrender my licence. If i'd done that rather than having it revoked i'd be able to drive
I understand that DVLA are a complete shambles atm, not that that's any consolation to the posters who are having problems with them.
The medical department were on strike for the whole of August. I'm told i'm a priority so hoping this week
I applied online for my licence to be renewed on 31 Aug and it arrived 4 days later, pretty good I reckon
The thing about V5's that most do not understand under the law, you are not really signing a document stating that you are the owner of a vehicle, you are signing a declaration, stating that you agree to abide by DVLA rules, see the V5, the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner of the vehicle.
So having just retained my number plate, waiting for the V5 and then the transfer of a new number plate and then the updated V5 coming through again, all of this process was done within 6 business days. Seems straight through processing for online services is very quick now. Despite me being able to transfer back to original number plate after the transaction was done online, I left the original plate I retained on the car until my new plate was assigned to the vehicle. Very easy these days - but I wonder if it is still only possible from Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 18:00 or if it is fully available 24/7 ? The links to 'take off' and 'put on' are in this pinned thread, at the top of the General chat section: https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?threads/how-to-transfer-your-cherished-private-plate.96/
Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, but has anyone tried to call the DVLA lately? Most of the time the line is simply engaged, and when I do get though, an automated voice just tells me to call back later. The reason I need to call them is to inform them of a change of address, and I cannot do that online because my house is a new build and their website does not accept the address. Anyone got any ideas? I don't want to get fined, and knowing the justice system in this country, it would not surprise me if not being able to contact them counted as a defence!
DVLA is in chaos at the moment. The rules for addresses for both V5Cs and driving licences say that you need to have an address that you can be contacted at. I imagine that you will be having your mail redirected from your old address so I wouldn't be concerned about any speeding or parking fines etc. until at least the redirection period is up.
l had to call them back in Dec 2020 and l spent best part of the morning trying to speak to somebody same as you automated message saying we are busy call back later and after about two and a half hours hanging up and immediately speed dialing the number again l got into the holding queue and was on hold for one hour forty minutes and then got cut off l had to persevere and call back and spent another two hours and a half hours dailing and holding before l got to speak to somebody. my car swap depended on this call so had to stick with it but in your case l would do a paper change of address and just post it off and wait for the reply many weeks down the line my stress levels were very high the day l had to call them
