I seem to be having a succession of niggly faults with my car - the latest is with the driver seat belt, driving me mad - as it has got very slow to retract when you take it off. I was a little surprised that it wasn't picked up at the last Mot in November, but it wasn't even noted as an advisory. It does lock when you pull it sharply, so that presumably is all they are interested in - and of course the vitally important bit. It is just a pain when you take it off and it gets all tangled up as you try and get out - rather than rewinding promptly as it should..

I have looked up the BMW price, which is predictably pretty horrendous, does anyone know if they are available from anyone else (new - not s/h) or any tips - on a way to restore more free winding operation? Any help would be much appreciated!

A squirt of silicone spray on the belt usually frees them up a treat

When you say spray the belt, do you literally mean all of it, or just around the bottom reel area?? I am just a bit concerned that if you mean the upper part, that it could mean silicone getting onto clothing, which I don't particularly want to do in case it marks the clothes.

Yeah the best way is reel the belt all the way out and then spray the belt, you can usually get it without having to do it on the part of the belt that touches your clothes. Worth a try

Silicone spray dries in minutes and doesn't usually leave marks on anything.

I gave the belt a good spray this morning, and I have to say that so far - it is much improved, so thank you Markyboy1 for that excellent suggestion, plus it was almost zero cost so....result!!
