    Hello all!
I keep getting a check tail lights warning coming up on the dash, I have checked all the bulbs, and they are all working - when i check! that is! I replaced all the tail light, and stop light bulbs not long ago, in an effort to clear the warning , but it still flags up fairly regularly.

I am beginning to wonder if this might be a similar problem to the problems that occur on the E61 5 series tourer, where the wires crack in the loom at the hinge going from the body to the tailgate. Has anyone else had this problem, or is it a known problem on the X5 tailgates?

Whilst I’ve not had problems, it’s not uncommon for the multi plug to short circuit, notable by charred blackening around the plug

Is be tracing my earth points as well. They can fur up or loosen with age, causing intermittent error warnings.

It’s not unheard of for the lights to suffer water ingress as well, especially the ones on the tailgate so worth checking that

We’re these not susceptible to spurious bulbs with erroneous resistance.....
Certainly common if Led bulbs were fitted

    Again throwing thoughts out

I think I have fixed the problem - when I took out one of the stop light bulbs, one of the contacts on the bulbholder was burnt or worn away, so I got a new bulbholder, which I have now fitted, and no more bulb warnings!! A pity that the bulbholder was so expensive though - over £12 !!

I am just surprised that the contact should have failed as it did, it isnt exactly a high current draw operating a bulb!!

A relatively cheap fix in the big scheme of things, so a result in my eyes. Good job.
