    Hi Folks,

I got the mandatory recall for the prop on my 2011 X5, They said it is fine and no action needed but i am concerned due to the video i filmed a week before it went into dealers, Thoughts? am i worrying about nothing?

    Thanks in advance

That is a lot of play but I have no idea what tolerances are allowed. I certainly wouldn't be happy with that.

Thanks, makes me wonder if that’s why my full car shakes at 55-80!
Already replaced bottom arms, all alloys straight and true, 4 new tyres, all wheels balanced.

I’ve contacted BMW Uk over it as I’ve no faith in them after this.

    Not sure by the video
However, from my viewing three times, the play is coming from the transfer box bearing and not the Universal Joint
    I could be wrong

    However
On a specific x drive forum there is a member that has has built a business reconditioning bmw x drive transfer boxes
It’s perhaps best contacting him (kkx5) to have a look at the video (second link)

I’d suggest the transfer case chain is worn or prop shaft spline wear

There's no reason for them to not carry out the work if it's needed. BMW pays the dealers a labour rate to carry out recall work so it's in their best interest for it to be faulty and need replacing :)

So an update, something now broke and I don’t know what, I was doing around 5mph in a car park and there was like a jolt, then I got DTC error, 4X4 error, gearbox error, said once I turn car off I can’t move it, D was flashing on stick, wouldn’t really move when turning wheel only slowly when wheel was straight. Turned car back on and no errors but if I try and move it the car suddenly feels jumpy like it wants to lurch forwards or backwards. Also couldn’t press P when in drive had to move to N and press P.

So when I turn the wheel I have very limited drive as in it crawls and that’s when fault in drive pops up.
Possibly a CV joint gone on front drive shaft?
