    Hi All,
First post here but was a member of the old BMWLand when I had my E60 530d (since made way for a Merc C250, and now my current Jag XF-S).

My wife has a late model E93 320d, which was registered in 2014 and we bought from the dealership with <100 miles on it. Fast forward to present, the car now has 32k miles and the 2nd gear synchro has failed requiring a new gearbox. BMW have offered to pay for 80% of the parts leaving us to pick up the labour costs and the remaining 20%- all in the bill to us will be £1285 (somewhat better than the £4,500 the job would cost). My view is that any gearbox should last significantly longer than 4 years and 32,000 miles so I have rejected the offer- more in hope than expectation... but I was interested in any experience or views you might have on this?

    Cheers

Have you spoken with BMW customer services regarding it?
Has the car got full service history with a main dealer? Obviously from a warranty point of view main dealer isn't required but now outside of warranty and looking for goodwill it can work a lot in your favour. If it is and there are no other aspects they might see as negative then I'm surprised you haven't got 100% parts and a labour contribution.

I haven't spoken to BMW Customer services as the dealership are speaking with BMW on my behalf. The car has always been serviced by the supplying dealer and it was during this service that ,my wife asked them to investigate the crunch when shifting from 1st to 2nd at higher revs. I wonder if I should be negotiating directly with BMW rather than relying on the dealer at this point?

Why does the gearbox need to be renewed, can't it just be repaired with new parts, where the originals have failed?

Definitely worth speaking with BMW customer services and telling them you’re not happy with the offer considering the mileage and your loyalty to the dealer network. They may well reassess it and give a better offer.

Not through BMW as the internals aren't available to part number.

My input is that you'll probably have to pay for the labour either way, but it's possible BMW will cover full part cost. That's a good result if you ask me.
Ok, a gearbox should last longer than that and in an ideal world BMW would cover the full cost but they do have a 3 year warranty and they do offer the option to extend with insured warranty.

note: my opinions are my own and my not reflect my employer :ROFLMAO:

Update: BMW have agreed to cover the cost of the parts in full and contribute 20% of the labour. I'm happy with this result.

Yeah that’s a good result and more like what I would expect in your situation. Whether other manufacturers would do the same I don’t know but BMW do seem to be quite good with goodwill.

Sounds like an excellent result. I think the kind of response you get from BMW, depends to a certain extent, on how good the dealer is, and the way they handle your claim. So well done. (y)

What's the ETA on it being fixed?

Well you’re having more luck than me with my AC that thinks it’s a heater. And mine was under three years old when reported, so well done.
