So had my compressor replaced after both sides of my rear suspension collapsed. At that time it came up with a chassis warning error. Had the car back and after a day got the chassis error warning a fair few times but not over the last couple of days. Also noticed the drivers side had collapsed when I had left the car A couple of times intermittently. Once turned in the car comes back up. Took back to garage who have looked today and said relay was reconnected. Went to collect after they had closed and the drivers side was collapsed again..also it feels like the car is jiggly a bit sine having the compressotpr done..not bouncy but more jittery when driving ...any ideas for when I ask garage too look again? Possible air bag leak? Alypthough they thought they were ok

@Peter may be able to offer advice, I recall his air suspension had issues.

If the air springs were collapsed for any length of time it is quite likely they may have damage or a small hole which is not visible to the naked eye. I had similar after replacement of the compressor on my E61 and ended up replacing both airbags after repeated chassis warnings.

    I'll add my experience...

My intermittent drops (one side) were due to the air spring itself. Was no visible sign of abrasion, deterioration, or a hole. Didn't respond to the bubble test the first time in the garage. Even the dealer was baffled, had to have the car back and get it on the ramp and load the suspension someway, and leave it sat there until they noticed a few bubbles. How the air bag sits and rolls can hide the problem. Get it just right and down the car drops.

The comment on it jiggling at the rear, is the ride level the same? Or is it running a different ride height, as if the level sensors are now out of calibration?

BTW, why the new compressor? Was it definitely identified as the problem? BMW thought it was my compressor/solenoid, but it didn't add up, hence the persistence with the spring itself.

    Thanks all,
Compressor replaced as both sides had dropped. Seems to be just the drivers side dropping at the rear, but hasn’t happened since I picked the car up. Are the air springs the air bag things on each side ? I may get them both replaced.
Not sure on the height thing car just feels as if it’s feeling all the bumps

If the air springs haven’t been changed, then the only thing that could have an influence, on the road feel, is the ride height. More air, more height, possibly more bounce.

How many miles/years use? Both of mine replaced (different times), at less than 50,000 miles.

The ride height should be stable, but due to the dropping I wonder if the ride height sensors are some way compromised, or need resetting (via diagnostic software).

What with the air springs collapsing, chances are you’ve split the Auxillary shock absorbers on the struts
Combined with the mileage the chances are higher
A relatively cheap part on its own but may require rear alignment to be checked after fitment so added costs

    item 5 below

(just realised I showed the picture of a conventional strut tower with coil spring, regardless the same part is fitted with Air springs)
