I would have expected that particular wheel to indicate a pressure loss? this was a system wide failure of all TPMS but i like your thinking and one to keep alive as a possibility
I wonder sometimes if it's a dickie sensor or two. My 2012 X3 about once a year would through up a 4 x 4 failure warning but restarting the car and no warning would appear. Had it checked at the dealers first couple of times, they could find nothing wrong, so I just lived with it being a lazy sensor. My G30 is the same, had it 14 months, in that time on 2/3 occasions when I've selected reverse the camera hasn't come on...next time it will work fine and continue to do so for months .....
No errors recorded in relation to the bong 10 days ago, so nothing they can do. The air con system was checked and no leaks found. I have a £100 excess on my extended warranty, but they are asking another £99 to regas the system. Most garages charge between £80-£100 to check and regas. I feel like my pants have been pulled down on this occasion!!!!! Is there anything i can do not to effectively pay twice?
If there are no leaks why does it need a regas? That doesn’t make sense. The system should not need gas at less than four years. How did they check for leaks?
I think over time the system will need a top up regardless of leaks, the biggest concern being the condenser, aka Early F10 cracking due to lower grills allowing stones. Regardless, the other option is a cheap Halfords top up kit to repressurise and top up, keeping the residual bottle for annual top ups!
Will ask later today and create a fuss as this still doesn't sit right with me. I accept a check + regas may be required but that doesn't cost £200! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Yeah but not over three and s half years. I work in HVAC and we have systems over 15 years old that have never needed a top up. If they do then they are pressure tested with nitrogen for 24 hours to determine if there are any leaks. That’s why I asked how they checked for leaks.
Collected the car and paid the £198 (£99 excess on extended warranty policy for investigation and confirmation of no leaks + £99 for regas) discussed the pricing with service agent and he said "BMW advise all customers to regas the air con every 3 years due to losses within the system" I shall go to a reputable Indy next time and save myself £100
It's annoying when they have you on the excess but don't find any faults as then it costs more overall to put the issue right. An indy would probably do a regas for around £50 so you'd save a bit more at least.
So why didn't they recommend a regas first, (for the so called "losses" ), then... if there was still an issue... investigate. Peter
Thanks gents. Ultimately any dealer for any marque wants to pull your pants down when possible. Hope my experience has given readers a heads up on trivial car maintenance via the $tealers
I have just booked mine in for air con re gas and air con refresh and the quote online was £104.00 £35.00 for air conditioning refresh and £69.00 for the air conditioning re gas My air con is still keeping the car cool but it is not as good as it was 18 months ago
Properly pissed orfff now. Don't drive the X3 as much, but yesterday and today I have, and the damn air con just about keeps me cool set to 16C and the fans going full pelt. It was fine 4 weeks ago, so I can only assume THERE is a leak in the system!!!! The bloody stealers said they checked for leaks. It also explains why a 3.5 year old car with 30k miles requires a regas Further annoyed that I rang Maidenhead twice and both times the service guys were busy , but should have called me back. Checked the Merc and Porsche - both ice cold to the point i had to switch them off There will be some choice words spoken tomorrow ..... and breath
640d 5 years and 65k Miles Air con blows well cold... with no maint on the system yet..?? !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@pinewood I'm hoping you'll at least be able to get your initial £99 excess back, failing that a free inspection as they obviously didn't do a good job the last time. I've had my car regassed once in my ownership (6 years) and it's still blowing cold.
Just had mine done using this deal - https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/groupon.co.uk No leaks in mine but it took c. 2.5 times the normal regas. At lest my aircon works properly now. I realised that the aircon had never been looked at, although it did work better when I got the e60 4 years ago. I went for the 'full' deal which includes the anti-bacterial treatment. ATS were having to book a full week ahead..... Very efficient they were too.
Update: a miniscule leak was found after testing for 2 days. Regassed at their own expense and we have a cold system once again. They even knocked off 40% from the labour cost of replacing my front pads as they needed doing in the next few hundred miles (as an apology for not spotting the leak first time). Bet the hot weather will leave us now! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
