    Hi all,

I’m just looking to see if this is normal or odd for these cars. I have the upgraded brake option on my car with the sport plus pack and the ZF 8 speed auto trans.

Anyway when coming to a stop at lights etc it’s as if the auto start stop kicks in a split second too early resulting in a mild jolt as the car stops. I may be adapting my normal braking routine to ensure start stop activates causing this jolt as well, I’m just not sure.

On normal braking I usually release the brake at the point of stopping and then reapply to hold the car in position to ensure a smooth stop. If I do this in this new car then it confuses the heck out of the auto start stop resulting in the starter engaging when the engine hasn’t fully stopped. This has happened several times so I tend to hold the brakes slightly to a stop. I don’t mind auto start stop, I actually like the quietness stuck in traffic however I think it cuts the engine too quick for my liking. Is there any way to extend this time just by a second or so?

I have the upgraded Msport brakes with the blue callipers. I've had no problem stopping smoothly, and the auto stop/start only happens when firm brake pressure is applied. Personally, I have no need of stop/start and so have coded it to remember the last setting. I normally have it switched off. IMHO stop/start is just a way for the manufacturer to improve the official fuel consumption figures. YMMV of course.

Not to mention, over time, the added sales of batteries and starter motors. :whistling:

I’ve not had experience of the stop/start with BMW (my E92 is too old for that piece of kit, thankfully), but on the hire cars I use it’s the first thing I turn off. I find it most annoying with an auto, tends to turn the engine off when waiting to pull out of a junction etc. I tried alternating the pressure on the brake pedal to keep the engine running, but with a wide variety of rental cars this became unmanageable! Hence reaching for the off switch straight away.
