Is there a way of stopping this problem? Minor frost this morning, dropped to -2 last night I believe. The car had both windows frozen, once opened they wouldn't drop so that the doors couldn't be closed again. The NS wing mirror was frozen in the folded position. They aren't frozen to the rubber seal on the glass (pillar less doors), it seems to be where the glass goes into the body of the door. It took a while with some warm water to coax the windows to drop, and then even longer for the wing mirror to open up. Daft given it wasn't even that cold!
I feel like a smear of gummi pflege or something on the scraper seal might likely end up smearing all over the glass but I wonder if popping the scraper seal off and applying rainex or something might stop it.
I did consider the gummy stuff on the seals, but as you say, that will cause smears and general mess. I shall have a look at the products out there to coat the glass, I'm sure there must be something.
I’ve used the Alfa for the past two days, leaving at the station while I go to London and back. No issues with frozen windows or wing mirrors this morning! None of that new fangled fancy business on the 147.
Matthew, did you have the same window problem with any of you previous coupes. BMW must have altered something in the design/materials/construction. My 2011 E92, in my possession from new, stands out in all weathers, including -15 degree nights, and has never had a problem with sticking windows. Touch wood. I was going to suggest a cover, but on reflection not sure how long it would stay in your possession.
My E92 used to stick when it froze, opened ok but then hit the rail when closing because it wouldn’t drop, soon defrosted. My F36 also does it as well but always seems to get enough play in the scraper seal to tuck back in.
I don’t recall having this issue with the 2008 and 2012 E92s I had, but had the same issue with the F32. Maybe the tolerances with seals etc are finer on the newer cars.
