Up to 11300 miles now. Using the car a little more now. Having said that, only 13 hours in the car for the entirety of February, so a slack month. March has already seen that time smashed! The app gives a relatively useful monthly overview, however. “34% of drivers” seems to be a popular stat they use.
Hmmm. So much for a quality repair on the NS front alloy. I had a minor scuff repaired by the local Sytner body shop in October. They recut the alloy and then must have lacquered the wheel. Seems the lacquer has failed. I’ve sent these photos to the dealership and asked what they will do to remedy the issue. None of the other three wheels look like this.
I’ve not had chance to chase Sytners regarding the alloy wheel, will drop in tomorrow when k drive past there. The app gives a review of each month, I quite like the summary of distance and efficient etc. The data for March is impressive, clearly I am driving this car wrong!
The car continues to be a relatively efficient mode of transport. I will see how this changes, or not, as I use the car more often for work trips. Needed to go to Portsmouth and Bognor Regis this week, took the BMW and it was excellent. Comfortable, easy to drive and efficient, saw 45mpg on the way down and 45.5mpg on the way back home. Overview for June: In other news, managed to get myself a speeding ticket in the BMW. Doh! Clocked at 80mph on the last stretch of the M42 before I exited at the Belfry/Sutton Coldfield junction. Warning to all, even if the gantries aren’t showing a speed limit or even the national limit, they are always on! My own stupid fault. Still annoying. I was overtaking the HGV and Fiesta, both slow moving, prior to the junction. My impatience got the better of me…
That's a real bummer there - feel for you. Presume it's 3points and a fine or do you get away with a course? What I am impressed about is the fact you can get a speeding ticket and nearly 41mpg in a 3l turbo'd six! Honestly, the more I read about you owning this car, the more I think you should keep it. From the outside looking in, it looks like such a beautiful compromise of a car for what you need. I understand the desire to keep it as perfect as possible - I think all of us on here think similarly - but it is at the end of the day a car to be used and it seems to provide a super balance of efficiency, speed, comfort, fun and cachet. Everything is a compromise at the end of the day and I do think modern cars are becoming inert. But bang for the buck (I know you got a good deal which would struggle to be repeated) and being close to edge of new technology without the super imposing new speed limiters and other assistance things, I think you're in a bit of a sweet spot you'd be in danger of loosing if you traded out. Having said all that - I cannot claim to be at all rational in any of my decisions, so shouldn't expect to preach either!
Hoping for a driver awareness course, did one back in 2016 and found it quite enjoyable! I’ve filled the form in and confessed to my sins, I await the reply.
14998 miles on the clock of the G22 now. Rolling along nicely. Had a chance to test the “practicalities” of owning a coupe last week. Met up with two mates in Hay-on -Wye, our annual “‘let’s pretend we are still young and at Uni” couple of days. Packed all that was needed into the car and had a lovely drive down the M5 (50mph average cameras) and then up to Hereford and over to Hay. As you can see in the photos, all the gear went in easily, no problem. The only gripe was from the one mate who drew the short straw and had to sit in the back as we drove up to the car park for the Dragons Back walk. Fabulous few days to unwind.
15,936 miles on the clock today, went for a day out in Buxton. Faultless as always. I realised I didn't update the summer trips on this thread. Seems as though the car as has become a weekend car, high days and holidays use only. At the back end of August we went to North Wales, stayed just outside Porthmadog, lovely hotel. I stopped to take some photos on the route over, as well as on the driveway of the hotel, I couldn't resist!
Fantastic drive out to Leominster on Saturday, took the A456 on the way there, the A44 to Worcester/M5 on the return. Effortless despatching of slower vehicles both ways, although the car has developed a strange tutting noise from the passenger seat during such manoeuvres…… Always like to be the first on the car park.
I have had tutting noises too over the years in various cars. Have been advised by the dealer that it is such an expensive fix not to bother with it and leave well alone!
Rapidly coming up to two years in the G22 now, time certainly flies when you are having fun! 16,700 miles since new, no faults or issues to report so far. The car had its first service yesterday, oil/filter/micro filter and randomly a changed remote battery. Oil sourced from the finest minerals that the world has to offer…. The video was interesting, nothing to report on service items, however, I’m not overly impressed with some of the surface rust I could see. The odd bolt and fixing is already showing signs of corrosion. https://video.citnow.com/vtC18Lsf8ry You may have gathered, from other threads, that I’m starting to look for the next car. Sat with the sales folk looking at M2 figures while I was there. Reasonably tempting, but not quite there to make me want to swap. Absolutely no rush, but my eyes are certainly scanning the horizon….
I’ve done a couple of insurance quote with my current policy, weirdly an M2 (auto) is cheaper than my M440i. A newer, more expensive rear wheel drive M car. Who knew! £80 refund for the current policy, that takes it up to May, so would be even cheaper over a full year. Actual maths stacking up….
