I remembered to retrieve the Garmin before I sold the F32 on, just about! Two weeks after having the G22 delivered I am looking to get this installed, driving on our roads in 2022 requires as much back up as possible. Unlike the F32 there is no socket under the glove box. The only 12v socket is in the centre console, this would block access to the wireless phone charging bay, so is out of the equation. There is an “official” Garmin live feed that plugs directly into the ODB2 port, then a USB-A cable can be run to the Garmin. I’m not convinced that this is a safe or sensible approach given possible battery drain and warranty. Here is the item: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12489036...sk3fnIHQBa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY The other option is a hardwire kit straight into the fuse box, this is located under the steering wheel. I may consider this option as it worked well on the E92. There are two USB-C ports in the back and one in the centre console. I’ve had a 3m USB-C to micro USB delivered today, took it out and had a look. It powers up the Garmin nicely, so would work well when the car is running. I’ve done a draft run of the cable and it seems to work if I place the camera on the passenger side of the rear view mirror. I will have a look to make this secure tomorrow when I have more time.
I went hard wired with my front and back cameras, much tidier, and the fuse in question stays live for 10 minutes after locking the car, and then powers it all off, so you have a litte bit of protection when you've parked up. I know there are battery backup options available so you can have it live permanently, and come on with any impact, but i haven't installed that.......at the moment The USB cable you have at the moment will at least give you peace of mind till you decide what option to take.
Fitted the usb cable today, looks to be a reasonably tidy job, I will see how it goes like this. Not 100% happy about the cable coming out of the centre console down to the passenger side trim, but not too obvious.
I have the 46 with the speed camera's etc and the free for life updates although I think there database is well out of date, compared to tomtom etc
