Ive been thinking of getting a GoPro, for car stuff as well as an addition to my camera kit however a few people have told me that the cheaper copies are just as good. Anyone any experience of them, or using genuine go pro kit? It'll mainly be used stuck to inside and outside of windows (no, not my shiny paintwork!) for driving clips on fun roads.

I have the hero 4 silver and it's great. Also tried the Chinese copies for cycling and they are okay, but the video quality isn't quite as sharp imo.
The official brackets, harnesses and fittings are overpriced and so I bought the cheap 20 piece bundles on Ebay. They do the job just as well.

My next idea is to mount the camera on the Boxster wind deflector or the trunk lid using a 3 suction cup mount. It appears to be the mount of choice for all the car video bloggers out there.

Go Pro's are pricey but still the best imo

I cant help re the go pro as i have no experience of this type of camera but i did notice that you can get a go pro mount that screws into the front towing eye of a car and thought that would make a good low camera location for some driving action shots

I like the idea of that, would make for some excellent follow shots.

    Thinking out loud here...
When you get some good footage using gopro and mounts, post it here but specifically give details of the mount including price and link to where purchased. It could help others

    Certainly will
Thanks for that, looks ideal. Im still deciding which gopro I should get/can afford to get without the missus complaining, or if I should go cheap in case it falls off the window :)
At the moment Im tending towards a refurbished hero 4

    I
you disagreed with my earlier post? Hmmm
Yes all cameras mounted to the outside of a vehicle should be tethered and covered in foam to protect paintwork

Checked back and it appears I did. Be assured it was a slip of the finger, or rather 'fat finger syndrome' whilst on my tablet :banghead: - all fixed now and hopefully [IMG] is restored.......:D

Tethers are def a must, though (y)

I use a GoPro 5 for kayaking. It's hard to beat genuine gopro, especially when I can pair it with my iphone to operate remotely or view/download videos

Not sure I can stretch to a 5 as the toy budget has taken a battering recently, but if I can pair a 4 with my iphone then that will be the decider for me and I'll order one.

Both cameras have impressive video modes. The silver has a rear screen as standard. The black does not, but both can use the wifi app to position and view footage.
You can shoot full HD on both, slow motion on both, and all the way up to 4K on both.

But the Black can do higher quality video at the top end. Because it can record video at 60Mb/s (TV work would require this), compared to an upper limit of 45Mb/s with the Silver, the Black allows for recording 4K video at 30fps (compared to 15fps on the Silver) and 1080p at up to 120fps (compared to 60fps on the Silver). It’s also important to note that these high-end video modes are demanding on memory cards
