It seems to be an ugly feature across the whole range of new models.
There's obviously someone in BMW's styling department that has appallingly bad taste. :( :redcard:

Although they can look a little out of proportion, I actually don’t dislike these large grilles and feel it’s something we will probably gradually get used to once we see them on more and more cars.

At least they’re not boring. :)

I was just watching the carwow review of the facelift 7 series and guess what the first thing they talked about

" you cant talk about the seven series without talking about that grill which gives it the buck teeth of a grinning beaver"

what were they thinking about if the motoring press are talking about the horrible grilles above anything else it cant be doing much for new car sales, I wonder how the sales of the 7 series are holding up in china and what they make of the face lift of this car

when i went around the factory at Dingolfing a couple of years ago around 40% of the 7 series on the line that day were destined for china so they obviously like the 7 series in china

image.jpeg In the BMW brochure the grille looks distinctly different than in previous photos.

I think it looks really good.

If only BMW were to keep the grille size like the current G11/12 models, (as your picture). New design, they are far too big and brash.

Wasn't so bad after all, was he? I'm sure even he is amazed at the grille dimensions.

the image that you posted is the current 7 series and it looks very nice, and is a car that i would like to own and drive

the grinning beaver is the new 7 series that has not hit the dealers yet, and is a car i would not look twice at with that hideous new grill

Are you sure that's not the older version before the styling changes on the latest model?

Ah, I received BMW news in an email today about the new 7 series, if you click on the link to the brochure for it, you get the older 7 series!

Here is the contentious new grille in all its glory...

    image.jpeg

And here is what BMW say about it...

"The 7 leads from the front. The iconic kidney grille is now 50% larger and sits perfectly with the elevated bonnet and redesigned front and rear bumpers. Complementing this grandeur are BMW Adaptive LED Lights as standard (with optional BMW Laserlights), new sculptured 3D rear lights, and 20” M light-alloy wheels with new eye-catching multi-spoke design."

    Anyone convinced yet? o_O:D

Not me. These large grilles are putting me off BMW. There is even a touch of embarrassment. How can a company with past designs such as the E39 do this?

"Leads from the front", now "vulgar" I'd say.

They need to look at cars like the E39 again, see how you can combine elegance, proportion and road presence.
