I remember the first time driving over the pass, was in thick fog. We went back the following day to see what we had missed. Realised how close to the edge we'd been a few times in the fog.

We were in my Mk2 Cortina GT. I added a servo to the brakes, so no issue in that department. (y)

Last time was in a 5 series, going over the crests was a leap of faith as bonnet was too long and couldn’t see road

If you think it's hairy in a car, it's even scarier on two wheels, especially the steep sections.

Ditto with my OH's 520 tourer in May - couldn't see a thing over the bonnet. He had to cycle it and many others the next day in the Fred Whitton challenge. mental.

That road has a special place in my memories, it was there that I first heard my dad swear. We were in a Mk I Escort, almost to the top, coming to a tight hairpin and he went to change down a gear, only to have the gear lever come out in his hand. The plastic dome cap used to secure it to the top of the gearbox had split and the lever just pulled up out of the box. Took some time to realise what had happened, and for the rest of the journey he had to keep pressing down on the gear lever so it stayed in place.
