Similar to other users I was a member of the "old" forum and gained a wealth of information (and contributed) all those years ago. A sad day when the site closed down.

Came across this incarnation purely by accident whilst researching my possible new BMW and signed up immediately.

Currently driving an F31 330d touring which was a replacement for my beloved (cliché I know!) E39 525i. Now that I have retired and the kids have finally fled the nest, its time to downscale and am seriously considering the M135i to take me into my dotage. Wife has mini cooper s and what with my 330 and not needing two cars anymore, I really can't think of any other model (or make) that bridges the different characteristics and performance of our two existing cars. So yes, at some point I will advertise the sale of the BMW here.

Anyway, looking forward to enjoying this forum and in particular, members opinion of the new 1 series.

Welcome back. I hope you enjoy the newer forum. Did I read you correctly? You are looking to replace both cars with a new 1 series?
I have recently gone through a similar scenario. I had an Audi Q5 Quattro 2.0i tfsi and my wife had a VW Polo TSI. After a considerable amount of umming and ahhing and a test drive, we have finally placed an order for a new 2020 LCI BMW X1 xDrive 20i MSport as a replacement. A good compromise for use. Due to be built in August for delivery in September.
Are you looking for the lastest M135i with front-wheel drive? Nice car but being quite old now we wanted a car that was easy to get in and out of and gave us an elevated driving position.

Yes you read correctly - looking to replace both the mini and the bmw with the new M135i. I initially looked at the x2 but felt even that was too big for what we need so hence the 1 series: narrower than the bmw (a bit) but wider than the mini and has five doors; performance and handling of the M135i should exceed that of the mini and the bmw so my expectations are high and more importantly, should persuade the wife to let go of the mini which is the only car she has loved as much since her Peugeot GTI which had to go post-conception some decades ago (along with my Toyota MR2)! Having now retired and having got shot of the kids I fancy a fun car with some practicality before I get too old! I think I’ll just need to get used to visiting the petrol station considerably more often.
