so just bought my first bmw and didn’t realise it didn’t come with navigation

I have been looking at upgrades and see I can get a unit from another car along with the idrive controls gps antenna and screen then it needs coding

Other alternative is an Avin system

What is the best route to go down ?

What car is it going into

The Oem route is expensive, the Avin system is a worthwhile upgrade with several options to attain Navigation, albeit with limitations

I suspect that you will find the cost to be rather expensive.
Possibly better to use a stand alone NAV system - say Garmin or smart phone?

Agree, even though I’ve got the latest maps update on my car nav, I generally use Google Maps to negotiate traffic.
The in car drive/nav is ok, picks up traffic generally but isn’t always up to date regarding changing conditions.

If you subscribe to RTTI it's usually pretty good I have run both car nav & tom tom (with live traffic) side by side on the same journey and there wasn't much between them

The idrive unit in the E92 won’t subscribe to traffic live updates, too old...

RTTI on the BMW is terrible imho.

The routing it chooses is also shocking.

Far better to look for a third party device to give you Carplay or Android auto imho.

Waze is just on another level for nav routing, certainly across London and other big cities in the UK.
