Hi, I am new to this and seeking some help.. I have a F01 model 730d on 2009 reg and sometimes when i have tried to start the car a message will come up "ignition fault". I can hear a clicking noise which I think is the starter motor trying to tick over but it won't start. I will then try again and it will start. I have checked and the battery is fine. This happens occasionally, any ideas will bepbe greatly appreciated? Thanks
Welcome to the forum, fella When you say you've checked the battery, how did you do that, exactly? Is it the original battery? Is the alternator putting out sufficient charge [should be around 14.2V when the engine is running at c 2/3000 rpm]? Have you checked the earth connection at the starter? It could be one [or a combination] of any number of causes, my first step would be to get the fault codes read by a good Indy. Good luck, and keep us updated with your findings. Oh, and btw..... they're almost compulsory here.....
Hi, thanks for prompt response, the battery is still the original one. Not so long ago I got a message saying that the battery is low, so I bought a battery charger from BMW, this showed when the battery is fully charged. When the charge was low the interior lights would not come on but now they do which makes me think the battery charge is fine. I am not sure how to check the alternator power outage or the earth cable for starter but I have the car booked in so will ask the mechanic to check this. I got codes checked and the only code I was getting was 28CE00 Lin bus communication fault which was to do with the preheating control unit for glow plugs which I have had fixed. The work was done by highly professional BMW technician who has set up independently. Thanks
